So, a new update is out (hurray!), and I foolishly clicked “remove old models” because there would be new models … BUT:
As every damn time since I bought and upgraded this software, the model manager has problems with getting some of the models. There are always some missing, and due to how the model manager works, it sometimes deleted models that it had already downloaded, if you try to skip some and continue further down. For that reason, I always make a safety copy of the models I already got in a separate folder and later just copy it back to my model folder. It works, and THAT proves to me that it would be EASILY POSSIBLE to just offer a zip file on the website that could be downloaded and copied in the folder to avoid all this hassle with the model manager that’s going on for years!
People are complaining time and again, sometimes some staff member replies and promises they will work on it, and then nothing happens and the topic gets closed and can’t be replied to anymore.
So, I am well aware that this was already an issue many times before. The problem still persists! The solution could be simple. Why is this option suspended?
We’re currently seeing some new issues with model downloading in the 7.1.1 release. While our team works on a fix, I recommend rolling back to 7.1.0 for smoother performance.

any response to this, I am getting the same error
This is an issue the team is investigating that is being seen in version 7.1.1.
The current recommendation is to roll back to version 7.1.0 for now while this gets resolved.

I’ve been trying to download anything in regards to this software for a while now, both models for it to work and update, but I cannot acces the server it seems, I’ve been trying for days, but it takes more than 3 hours to download just 1 mb. I let it run all day yesterday, and downloaded only 6 mb.
The files on this site has the same download speed as the software, it just won’t download.
Please let me know how to adress this as I’m on a tight deadline and really need this service to work for me now.
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards// Joel
Hi Joel.
I’ve copied this information from the Troubleshooting Guide about Model Downloading Errors
Check for connection blockers, i.e. VPN, proxy, firewall, anti-virus, or Windows Defender / Windows Defender SmartScreen
- Turn each one off momentarily and then try again.
- If that works, add the app to a list of accepted products within the anti-virus software.
Here’s the link for the Troubleshooting Guide

Hi, Thank you for a quick reply!
I appreciate your effort to help out.
I don’t think the issue is connection on my/our part. I tried everything on the list for fixes but the same issue still occurs.
I’ve found a work around (in my case) that solves my most urgent needs for now and here’s what I’ve noticed: (if it can help you in troubleshooting perhaps)
I can download at the start of every “try” but the connection seems to be dropped after just seconds. So my workaround was to start the model download manually on the specific model I need for now. It downloads a couple of units/parts/mb at a time, I let it download what it can, restart the software and download again. Each time it downloads more, then stops. After about 12 restarts I have one model downloaded.
It’s obviously not optimal, but at least I can use the one model I need for this work.
Don’t know if that helps you narrow down the troubleshooting, but at can’t harm sharing my obesrvations.
Anyhow, I love you software (when it works)
Best Regards
Joel
Thank you for your detailed reply, good to hear you found a workaround that’s great for the short term
However, the issue still remains and I recommend contacting and creating a Support Ticket with Topaz Support from the link I gave you to help resolve this issue

Dear Support Team,
I have just updated Topaz Video AI to version 7.1.1.
During installation, I confirmed the option to delete all models (assuming they would be updated as well).
After starting a new upscaling project, nothing happened. I noticed that the models directory (installed on D:\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Video AI\models) was being filled with model files during the process, but at the same time some were deleted. For example, the folder shows 20 files, then 21, and then back to 20 again.
As a result, the performance has become unusable:
- Upscaling just 5 seconds of video takes around 3 minutes (on an RTX 4090 + Threadripper + 128 GB RAM).
- Previewing even 2 seconds of video on the timeline does not work properly—it takes minutes instead of being instantaneous as in the previous release.
I also tried manually reloading all the models, but the issue persists. In version 7.0 everything was working smoothly and previews were blazing fast.
Could you please clarify what happened to the models and why the software keeps loading and deleting them continuously? At the moment, I am unable to use Topaz Video AI as before.
Please address this issue as soon as possible.
Best regards
I’ve attached her the log file

Every time I export a video the program re-downloads the model. The only fix is to disconnect my computer from the internet. This Just started happening with the latest version 7.1.1.
I tried reinstalling Topaz Video AI.

Same issue here. It really sucks.
The same here, really annoying, every export leads to download of the same models again and again.
I just updated and am encounter the same bug. It’s been reported for FOUR DAYS and there has been no official response??!!
This makes the software useless.
Same here. We also see connection issues with the download manager, having long delays of rendering not starting.
