Incomplete Renders

Experiencing multiple render problems. Have encountered these before.

  1. Adds a couple of frames to the end of the rendered file that aren’t in the original.

  2. Stops rendering part way through then restarts render percentage count then says render is complete.

  3. The resulting file contains only content rendered up until the percentage froze then reset. The remainder of the render is missing.

  4. Clicking on the completed file in the render queue doesn’t open the file.

Including logs from version 5.3.2. Although have also tried with earlier and later versions including Alpha build, and Beta builds, and 6.1.

I have since updated my OS to Sequoia and now following the stop start rendering I am seeing the word ‘error’ in the render area, and there is no rendered file produced. Am including screen recording.

Thanks for the screen recording. Can you send the updated app’s logs after you got the error?

To gather logs, please select Help > Logging > Get Logs for Support and attach the zip file to your reply.

Thank you for your quick response Margaux. Here are the logs. I appreciate your help. Without it I am stuck!

Hi Margaux,
Any progress on a solution as yet?

Encodes are freezing/repeating the last couple frames where ever it detects a scene change. I can tell when this is happening during the render stage because the render bar refreshes (starts over) during render. I have observed this happening previously, around 6 months ago. Not sure how it was resolved then. I have not changed anything on my system, including the software version. Everything was working fine, then suddenly the problem arose.

Any advice?

The logs are showing that you are still using an alpha build from version 5. Are you seeing this same issue in the full release version of v5.3.2?

Hi Kyle,

Yes I am. Experiencing the issue across all releases including 6.1 The problem has worsened and I have created a new support request detailing the issues here Incomplete Renders

I am sending a screen recording via dropbox.

Is this only happening with a specific file? Could I take a look at the video for testing?

You can securely submit your file(s) to our Dropbox using the link below. Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something and include the file name.

It was happening with all files. It is now resolved. I did nothing at my end to resolve it. Nothing has changed on my system except that Video AI has resumed working. The renders in the export section now stop updating at a point but the renders continue to completion in the background. I’m including my logs. Previously it rendered only the first few frames. I tested it with a range of files, so the issue was not with the file. Can you please shed some light on whether something has been changed on your end that has resulted in the software working again? It’s very frustrating not being able to rely on the software working, but it is also frustrating not knowing why it stops and starts working. Can you please shed some light on what informs these changes since nothing has changed at my end and the software has resumed working, atleast to a degree.

Can you run a test and see if the issue happens specifically with ProRes selected as the codec?

I can’t run that test because the issue has resolved itself without any changes on my end. As I already mentioned, this was happening with all files, and now, without any intervention on my part, it is no longer happening.

What I am asking—and what hasn’t been addressed—is whether anything has changed on Topaz’s end that could explain this. One thing I’ve noticed is that every time I apply an enhancement, the software downloads the model again. Is this because something is being updated on Topaz’s side? If so, is this where the changes may be creeping in and affecting stability?

The fact that the software stops and starts working unpredictably makes it unreliable, and the lack of transparency around why this happens is frustrating. I’ve asked this question directly, yet the responses keep sidestepping it. Can you provide an actual answer as to whether anything has changed on your end, or is this just something users have to accept without explanation?
