Hi Esther, I don’t have access to Gigaprint so can’t comment on how that’s working. But the Standalone launched fine on my Win 11 Pro desktop PC & I was able to process a photo (monochrome) okay. Ditto, it opened using my Ps (2024) Plugin. I didn’t upscale at all (the image didn’t warrant it… ), but the various models responded quickly - I didn’t try Recovery b/c the not great image was over 2K px on sides. The install was fast too.
Thanks Esther and Fotomaker,
Problem solved. Dumb me, could have thought of the solution to two computer related problems before: restart or reinstall.
Again, thanks for your help.
When I was working, in the early days of desktop computers (yes, there was such a time…), I’d contact IT tech spt. Inevitably their 1st question was, “Did you check to make sure the computer is plugged in?” (That was never the issue…,).
It makes me laugh every time I try to figure out what’s messed up with something computer or mobile device related now. Glad you had an easy fix!
Esther - a few variants on the same image with different GAI 7.4.3 models used (as Ps 2024 Plugin, Win 11 Pro, Processor = AMD RX6800 XT).
BTW, I know I’ve rqsted before, but could the version/rel. # in the Dark Mode UI pls be made White so it’s more readable. Pls. see attached snips to see how easy it is to read dimensions, etc. at upper right and impossible to read vers./rel. # (and, for the helpful folks out there, my monitor is calibrated every 2 wks and is on a proper brightness setting for fine art photography).
Original is low res lifestyle portrait (dimensions visible in the snips below) .jpg. I tried various model and Face Recovery settings options.
I didn’t see really radical differences between the variants - but definitely saw an overall improvement from the original to any After variant (Face Gen 1/2, Recovery Quality/Spd) & subtle differences among/between the model variants. Methods used/settings included in filenames.
I’d say Spd Recovery was softer than Quality. And, Face Recovery Gen 2 image looks less saturated (to my eyes). He’s very ruddy and less so in the Gen 2 Face Recovery.
p.s. Later on the same day … (doesn’t that sound like a novella or something???) I decided to see what Photoshop’s (Ps) Neural Filter for “Photo Restoration” would do for the same image. Yikes! Talk about jaggies and no fixes! Perhaps it’s not designed for what I wanted to do, but I’m not aware of another Ps inherent feature to try. Here’s a snip of what I see (guess who had some feedback to provide to Adobe…you guessed it!):
I have been trying all day. With computer restarts trying to close all programs and all kinds of shit.
I just wanted to try it next to my photo ai license Jesus it’s hard giving people money these days but topaz never lets me down when looking for surprises
I’ve been trying the various modes as well. At first, I did not see much difference in the two face recovery options, but it depends on the face. If everything is reasonably clear and right they are similar, but on one image where there was a bad spot in the image across a bit of the face (maybe something close partly in front of the lens), the new mode filled in a a face and fixed it. On another where the original had the eyes looking a bit to different from each other, the new mode fixed it, but the original one just sharpened and denoised, clarifying something that did not look great to start. When its needed the new AI mode is excellent.
Recovery speed mode is always soft – I’ve suggested they have a way to sharpen after it. It does take out noise and some other issues nicely to reconstruct a picture but goes too fast to make a sharp one. Quality almost always makes a great image, but takes about 10x as long.
I just tried a low res .jpg of Shadow or Jackie (bald eagle) in their favorite roost tree in Big Bear (southern Calif.) surrounded by dense smoke from one of the ongoing forest fires.
I added a bit more tree up top for balance compositionally with Ps gen expand. Then, made processing tweaks in Ps’ Camera Raw Filter (luminosity, texture, clarity, add haze & contrast and a bit of vignette and noise added). Then, back in Ps, converted to BW with a Gradient Map adjustment layer. Added a Threshold adjustment layer to that (for more stark contrasts) then reduced the opacity of that layer. Sent that concoction into this rel. of GAI.
Used GAI Recovery - Quality and 3x upscale. For this result sent back to Ps. Added a bit of darkening vignette around the borders.
I seem to be experiencing bugs today using my Ps plugin. I didn’t just install it. I installed and have used a few times since this vers. released…
Image I’m trying to process: Original Sony .ARW, opened into ACR (camera raw), straightened in ACR then opened into Ps for processing. Only Ps processing was a sky replacement before sending to GAI 7.4.3. I assume it gets sent as a .tif. [Shot is of model train environment setup at an event]. B/c shot with a Sony point & shoot I’d like to sharpen the image - that has shallow DoF with the focus on the larger building.
Image is too large for me to work with the Recovery models as I’d hope.
I used Comparison View (Std, Low Res, High Fidelity, Lines & Shapes - chose b/c lots of geometric shapes in the ‘architecture’). This is where the 1st bug occurred for me. I “x’d” out models I didn’t want to use 1 x 1 until I got down to 2 models (High Fidelity & Low Res). The 1st two model previews I eliminated went away okay. When I tried to “X” out the 3rd - Low Res model - it wouldn’t go away - it kept reprocessing the preview. In the past I’ve been able to X down to the final model preview I wanted to go with in the image workspace. That’s how I still want to be able to work with GAI.
Rqst:Can someone pls troubleshoot to see if it’s a model-related issue or a Comparison View issue (ie, any time it gets down to 2 model previews, 1 of the 2 cannot be eliminated from view by clicking “X”)?
The 2nd Issue I experienced: Once I got my chosen model to process and saved back to my Ps layer stack, I see no difference in image appearance between my launch layer (ie, original sent to GAI) and the allegedly processed output from GAI. I’ll try to attach Before/After snips (labelled in filenames).
I hope it’s not my vision that’s the issue wrt seeing no processing on the GAI Ps output layer (labelled in my Ps layer stack). I applied a fairly high Sharpening, very low noise (~ 3) and a moderate amount of compression detail recovery using the High Fidelity model.
