Frame rate in "Source" panel sometimes repeats as decimal

If you are posting a new bug, please include the following]

  1. The bug / behavior you have encountered:

The “Frame rate” listed for a video sometimes repeats infinitely.

For example, I currently have five videos open in Topaz Video AI. When I mouse over them, videos in position 1 and 3 have FPS listed at 29.97002997002997, but videos in position 2, 4 and 5 have FPS listed at 29.97

At first I thought this bug only occurred with every other input video, but the fact that the fourth and fifth video I opened display properly, leads me to believe this bug is a bit more random.

Probably not a bug. You would have to look at the file metadata to see how the frame rate has been stated there. That particular NTSC frame rate is normally defined as 30 x (1000/1001) which works out as 29.97002997002997, so 29.97 is an approximation.

So the display isn’t wrong, just showing too much accuracy perhaps.

I have a small sample from an NTSC DVD that also shows 29.97002997002997 in TVAI:

Looking at the mediainfo report shows the frame rate is defined as 30000/1001, and then just displays it to 3 decimal places (29.970):

Thank you for the information!

The way frame rates are defined also relates to drop frame and non-drop frame timescode, but that’s a complication I won’t go into. Here’s a starting point:
