I have a 20–25-minute SD clips I’m upscaling to HD. The enhance options and quality are fine. However, when I hit render, only the first few minutes of the clip are in the output render file.
The process takes about 4 hours, as expected, yet the output file is always 2.15GB, no matter what codec. I need ProRes for the delivery.
I’ve tried using v5.2.1 and v5.1.4. Same issue. I’ve logged in, logged out, and restarted countless times. I’ve installed and reinstalled it many times. Same issue.
I marked the in and out points at the beginning and end
Only the first 2.15GB is saved.
So, I thought, let’s try doing this in After Effects ( current release). I can’t get the plugins to activate, so I can’t test it otherwise.
I did a test a few weeks ago on the same machine, and it all worked fine. The 25-minute clip generated a 20GB output file as expected. I’m not completely sure what version I was using. Likely 5.1.4. It was before the v5.xx upgrade. Nothing has been the same since upgrading to v5.2.1
Update:
I loaded up v5.2.1 on an Intel (i9) iMac.
After 24+ hours of rendering, the end result was still a 2.15GB video clip. Like the others, It’s a few minutes long.
I uploaded files and logs to the Google Drive shared folder for review.
It’s not the clips because I did get this to succeed a few weeks ago. You can find that in the log.
It’s the same issue on two machines and two different processors. Hmm.
I would prefer to run the process on the M1Max processor for 4 hours versus 24+ hours per clip in the Intel.
I’m willing to try the test on the Intel; however, it’s just not practical to do them all (21 clips) on the Intel.
Please send a solution for running on an Apple Silicon machine.
Thanks,
Sorry I was looking at the logs that were in the google drive link, I would definitely recommend sticking with the M1 system.
Would you be able to share a quick loom screen recording showing the initial process of selecting the settings until you hit export? I want to see if there’s anything in your workflow that may be causing the file to not export fully.
Feel free to share the link via email at help@topazlabs.com if you prefer.
Update…
The render with the suggested settings for the Intel render took about 12 hours. Much better!
However, the file saved was still 2.15GB and incomplete.
Is it worth trying to get the plugins to work correctly in After Effects?
I mentioned in my original note I could not get the AE plugins to authorize. Apple Silicon machine.
Please advise.

Hi Alton, your workflow in the screen recording looks like there are no issues there, I am checking with the team to see what may be going on in the logs and I will get back to you as soon as I have more info
Update: I tried using v5.2.2.
Same issues. Only saved 2.15GB of the treated clip. I inadvertently set the AI Model to Rhea - Enhance MQ, which generated an SD output.
The file size is the same (2.15GB), and the clip was 20 minutes long due to less data. This proves that the entire clip is processing, and there’s something going wrong with the final file compile.
I’m going to do a test using an image sequence output.
I ended up rendering out image sequences and remarrying the audio. More steps but it got it done.
I’m annoyed I didn’t thing of that option earlier. I’m bothered that you didn’t suggest it either.
So the problem seemes to be solved - after the clips needed to be deliverd, of course.
And I now know, and you should share, the image sequence more freely.
I will also interject here that, in general, the interface for Video AI is very poorly designed and extremely buggy. It’s not at all intuitive and needs to have the input from experienced UI and UX designer(s) and users - not me, however. It’s shockingly bad for a v5 product.
You would do well to make it better. I look forward to it being better.
That drive I was working off of was formatted APSF and has many many files larger than 100GB ( 2TB Samsung 870 QVO), The local drive which did successfully save the entire output properly was also formatted APSF.
I don’t see where that is the issue here. Please feel free to explain.

The logs are showing that there was a Volume drive connected named Macintosh HD (separate from the local Macintosh Hard Drive in apfs) is formatted as smbfs which has a 2gb max file size limit
