I have had a number of issues where the processing of a photo gets stuck on Upscaling and the progress bar almost finishes but then starts again.
Photo has been opened from Lightroom Classic
Generally the latest version is so much slower than the last version when processing photos despite the release notes saying 3.1.0 is the fastest version yet.
Disable any antivirus, firewall, VPN, or proxy software that might be active on your computer. These tools sometimes interfere with the installer’s ability to download the model files.
Ensure that the Topaz Photo AI installer has all the proper settings in your system by going to your Mac System Settings > Privacy & Security tab and scrolling down to the security section. You will want to make sure you have ‘App Store and identified developers’ selected | MacOS | Example of Proper System Preferences
Thanks John, that seems to have solved the problem. Items 3 and 4 were fine so either it was the plist files or somehow the program got corrupted and needed re-installing.
It seems to be working a lot fast as well even on a slightly old MacBook Pro.
The problem seems to have returned. It was working Ok on Sunday and then yesterday I tried to process a few photos and the progress bar gets stuck at around 75% and then the laptop heats up, fans hit max speed and nothing happens.
I did delete the plist again but didn’t work. I don’t really want to keep reinstall the software every week. Any idea what is causing the problem?
Thanks John. I’ll send this evening when I get home.
But it’s a 2018 MacBook Pro with 16gb memory running latest OS. It’s not the quickest anymore, but the Topaz software has worked fine up to now. I should use the M1 Mac really but laptop is more convenient.
Thanks for sending in that system profile information.
I will note that Intel CPU Mac devices are slightly underpowered for AI processing and will perform slower. We have some more information on our Topaz Labs Documentation page that I will link below for your review:
Many users with Intel MacOS machines have reported that Topaz Photo AI v2.4.2 is most suited for their needs and experiences better processing times. I have included a link to that previous version below if you would like to revert to this version for your machine:
I did notice the Intel was struggling a bit with the new version, but it did eventually get there. But quite often it just gets stuck when processing an image which is frustrating.
If I use this version will it still download the latest models?
If you are using a previous version of Topaz Photo AI, the application will only use the models that were designed for that particular version. It will not download or use the latest models.
Each version of Topaz Photo AI is built to work with specific AI models. When we release new versions, they often come with updated or new models that are not compatible with older versions of the software.
v2.4 does seem to be playing much nicer so far. Processing is much quicker and not getting the fans spinning up. I guess the new version causes the CPU to overheat in my Intel machine which results in throttling so even slower processing time.
