Disc Out of Space Error - but not really

[If you are posting a new bug, please include the following]

  1. The bug / behavior you have encountered
ERROR is displayed in red on center of the image display and at the bottom right it reports “Out of Space.” I checked the disc ( C ) and it has 1.6 TB free. However your error report shows the following:
  • No space left on device.
  • Free space in C:/ : 0.000 / 1861.777 (GB)
  • Free space in D:/ : 619.277 / 931.387 (GB)
  • Free space in F:/ : 1302.807 / 1861.777 (GB)
  • Free space in G:/ : 22.728 / 29.711 (GB)
  • Free space in V:/ : 58663.668 / 67924.109 (GB)
  • Note: some space gets freed up when the unfinished files are deleted when a process fails.

Please let me know what to do as this took hours to get to this point (running overnight) and I’d like to avoid repeating the process without a specific solution.
Note: while I have been writing this note, the process seems to have re-started and claims about 5 hours remaining.
Either way, confidence is low and I would like to find out if I have done anything incorrectly to have the software stop and display an out of space warning when there is clearly pleanty of room.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

You will need space on your C drive for the temporary files.

If you are unable to clear space, you will need to change the project file location from C:

File > Preferences > Directories > Workspaces folder

Then create a new project file:

File > New project

Hi Margaux,

Thanks for getting back to me. I don’t think I was clear in my message to you. What I’m saying is that my C drive - the project file location, has lot’s of space. At no time was the C drive full. The problem was that Video AI stopped and displayed an error message “reporting” the drive full when it was not full and had 1.6TB of available space. Many, (hundreds of) times more GB’s that the original video file size of about 4GB. I can’t imagine that Video AI requires over 1.6TB of temporary space to process this small video file. I was wondering what you think might have caused the error so I can perhaps avoid running into the same situatioin in the future.

Many thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

The logs are showing that the C drives has 0 bytes left after processing 123353 frames of your input clip.

(“C:/”, type=NTFS, name=“OS”, [ready], bytesTotal=1999068205056, bytesFree=0, bytesAvailable=0)
