Can someone from Topaz please clarify at what point I would actually need to extend my 1 years’ of updates in order to use the latest version. I was using version 5.3.2 and before 5.3.3 was released my 1 yr updates expired. I wasn’t sure whether or not I could update to 5.3.3 but I found that version is currently listed as “owned” in my account. So I updated and all is fine (apart from all the bugs and that UI, of course). So, does that mean I can use all versions of 5.3.x ? Or is it all 5.x.x?
Or perhaps someone can provide a link to where all this is clarified, as I can’t find it.
Please log into your Topaz account. There you see which Topaz products have still an active upgrade license. You can run older versions too. The 2.x versions of Video (former Enhance) AI are nowhere to be found anymore as far as I know.
Thanks very much for your reply but my question was regarding version numbers supported by a current licence. Specifically, I want to know in advance if I will be able to use v5.4.x even though my updates have expired. Logically, I shouldn’t have been able to use v5.3.3 as my updates period had already expired several days before that was released, based upon the strictest interpretation of “update”. That’s why I’m asking for clarification, ideally from Topaz, to avoid any further confusion.
if your update license expired you can use newer versions from the day of expirance on only in trial mode. for further assistance by topaz please write to support@topazlabs.com.
I don’t wish to be rude as I’m sure you’re only trying to help. However, I can’t help noticing your replies bear an uncanny resemblance to the sort of responses I would expect from ChatGPT or similar. I hope you don’t mind but I’ll await a response which answers my question, thanks.
@Imo
That really doesn’t answer his question. because he stated that it already expired but yet he was able to upgrade. so the theory doesn’t match the practice. what he is asking is, once it expires can he upgrade to all minor versions withing the current major version? or for example, once it expires, you get one more version grace to update or like additional 2 weeks to catch up with the latest, etc…
@07broom.fibulae
My guess, again only my guess… once it expires, you get to upgrade to the latest release version that was in working development while it expires.
for example: let’s say the latest release was on September 7th, and your license expired on the 14th of September, but between the 7th to the 14th , there was a new version in the development pipeline, let’s say it was released on September 21st. you would be able to download that version as it was in the development pipeline while your license was still active.
This is my own interpretation and is not backed up by any formal evidence or Topaz statement.
That’s exactly in line with my thinking. Let’s hope Topaz will clarify so we all know for sure. However, perhaps they might be reluctant to clarify as I’m sure they want everyone to renew ASAP rather than wait…
As you owned 5.3.2 at the time your licence expired you’re entitled to all versions 5.3.x. You won’t need a new valid licence until 5.4.0 (or 6.0.0) is released.
This is simply a subscription program. If you sign up for monthly payments, during that you’re able to download any new version if you keep the monthly payments going. Once you stop the monthly payments, you can’t download any new version after that. It’s my thought that you will be able to use any older version prior to ending your subscription.
Think of it like a magazine subscription or newspaper. You will receive new ones to read until you stop making your monthly payments. Since you already have the old ones, you can continue to read those.
Actually this is not much different than what they already have. The old plan was that people could pay for an upgrade whenever they wanted and that was typically annually. During that annual period, you were able to download any new versions. If you didn’t pay, then you could still use older versions. Also, if you didn’t pay at the time, you could wait it out for features that you wanted. The difference now is that they want guaranteed income on a regular basis and they’re willing to give a discount for that.
The license for the “personal” version is still the same, at least so far. The annual subscription license is for the “Pro” version.
Log in to your account and go to the My Products page. The download link for your license will display what version you have and the most recent release you can download and use under license.
it’s not a subscription plan. it’s an upgrade protection payment.
with Subscription based program, you don’t own the software, You pay for using the service/software.
Once you seize paying you can no longer use the service.
With Topaz you use and own the software even if you chose not to renew your “Upgrade Protection” payment/program.
that is for code changing and/or reselling (reseller), etc. not for personal use.
It’s a legal thing that you won’t customize the code on top of the core code.
