Old user here, gutted and sincerely sad that Topaz ( ) has gone to sub model, but I know profit is all that matters these days and things rarely change for the better eh.
Anyway, I saw a post on reddit about updating which insinuated the following, and wondered, if I sub for a year and then unsub - will that update my version permanently?
Also, will I ever lose my home version? Its annoying that I cannot even update it to the last version despite being a supporter since 2021.
I’m a Subscriber and can’t give you the answer but, you own Topaz Video AI version 6 so, nobody is going to take it away from you.
Try Downloading version 7 and see what happens if it works great if it doesn’t nothing lost because, you always download your version again from the My Products page within your Account
Log into your account on the Topaz website and you’ll see a list of your previous purchases. Each will have a download link to the version you bought.
Subscribing won’t update your old app, it’ll download a new app that will only work while you’re subscribed. If you cancel, you’ll be back to only being able to use your previous app.
That’s interesting because, I’m also a Subscriber and I own Topaz Video AI version 4 but since becoming a Subscriber I can indeed Download and use all previous versions including 5, 6, 7 and Topaz Video Studio version
Having said that I still know once I stop Subscriping I’ll have to revert back to Topaz Video AI 4
Hmmm the plot thickens. I DL’ed the one you sent and logged into 7. It won’t let me use it but does offer me a chance to buy the license outright? I am very confused…
Certainly worth a punt but, wait there’s more as you have purchased Topaz Video AI before I believe you can still update to version 7 for the original upgrade price $150.
My suggestion would be contact the good people at Topaz Support and ask politely if that’s a possibility again what have you got to loose my friend
If you have a license for Video AI 6x and don’t intend to use the newer diffusion models, there’s really no benefit to upgrading. Just keep using what you have.
That our perpetual licenses would be good for the last release that came out before the license expired. So if the OP’s perpetual license expired when 6x was current, it should not have worked for 7x. And if your last perpetual expired during 4x, it shouldn’t work for anything that’s come out since.
But as I said, it wouldn’t be the first time they told us something about how licenses work that turned out not to be correct.
Hi Gene, I suppose I am wondering if those diffusion models are going to dramatically change the quality of footage?
I agree with all you said too about Topaz. I also find it all very confusing. I have seen a new competitor ( NAY! I? FARTY! ) for the same price as what Topaz () are offering me to upgrade to 7 for $150 after I emailed them. No money obsessed subscription nonsense and it runs great and much quicker and the results seem astonishingly better than 6…
Still think that the other software is better besides, Topaz has offered you the chance to upgrade your version for Topaz Video AI 7 which as you know has been discontinued
Remember Topaz were under no obligation to do so, and I ask where would you find that sort of service from any other software companies
Ok, sorry I am confused though by what you say. Maybe I am not following. I already own 6 so its not $300 worth for $150? It is $150 for an upgrade to 7, or $150 for the competitor that is offering a faster system that does an as good job as 6 and will receive more “life long” updates. Also, I have spent a lot more than $300 on “updates” over the years with Topaz …
