VEAI 3.3.10. Source is 720x576. Select output as 1920x1080, square pixels, Letterbox/Pillarbox.
The resulting Preview still has the same aspect ratio as the original and is not widescreen (as selected) with black bars on each side.
Change Letterbox/Pillarbox to Crop to Fill. Preview footage is now the right aspect ratio, but is far too zoomed in (zoomed in to width rather than height).
Can you share a screen recording of what you are seeing and the input file you are using?
Oftentimes it is easiest to share a screen recording for issues like this to quickly show me exactly what is happening. I use Loom for screen recordings since this is a free and easy to use app.

Just updated to v3.4.0 and the problem remains. Here’s what Preview shows with 1080 FHD square pixels set to Letterbox/Pillarbox. The output is wrong (not widescreen, it should have significant black pillars on left/right):
v3.4.0. The output file contains black pillars and the widescreen aspect ratio. So it was the Preview display that was wrong. And it’s also wrong while displaying the Export file.
I can also report that the playback of the Exported video is terrible. Not only is it the wrong aspect ratio (no pillars), but the playback is EXTREMELY slow, jittery and rarely responsive to user control (dragging the play head along the timeline, pressing Pause). It even played BACKWARDS at one point.
Being file-based should not stress the system: the output file is on a high-end NVMe drive and plays fine in VLC.
