ADJUST LIGHTING and BALANCE COLOR unavailable NEF file

The ADJUST LIGHTING and BALANCE COLOR features are grayed-out, thus not available for use on an original unretouched Nikon NEF file. When I click on the grayed-out feature the balloon states that they are not available for use on RAW images. I’m confused, why wouldn’t I want to use the original file to apply changes? Rather you want me to use a heavily “photoshopped” image which contain app-indused artifacts into the mix…crazy.

I think I read that it’s something they’re working on or planning to work on? I hope they do, as I’d rather apply those to the RAW as well.
