A bug converting WEBP to PNG?

I’m upscaling WEBP image files and saving them as PNG files. The files are coming out what seems to me to be quite a bit larger than they should be, like three to four times too large.

For example, I have a WEBP file that’s 6,812KB (bit depth 32). I upscaled it at 2X. I saved it as PNG with a compression level of 6. The PNG file is 320,034KB (bit depth 48).

I have other PNG files upscaled to the same image size, although at a bit depth of 24, that are around 40 to 55MB. If the bit depth affects the file size linearly (I have no idea whether it does or not), I’d expect my WEBP upscales to be around 80 to 110MB.

Is there some reason the files are as large as they are or is Photo AI doing something wrong?

Topaz Photo AI 2.1.4 on Windows

I would suggest that, in the meantime, convert the images to JPG or PNG outside the application and upscale those. It seems that opening WEBP may be an issue because of the bit depth or the transparency.
