Why does Topaz Photo AI Aways Save The Image As A Smaller File Size

So I am using Topaz Photo AI as a standalone program. While, I love the program, I have noticed that everytime I use the program it always saves the photo as a smaller size photo. So, if the photo I open is say 4 mb, Topaz Photo AI will save it as an 800 KB size file. I was wondering why this happens and if there is any way to increase the file size?

Thank you!

Are you using JPG files by any chance?

By default, Photo AI saves JPG files at 95% quality, which is the highest quality that does not introduce artifacts. It’s the most space and quality efficient way to save JPG. Even 95% will have significant file size reduction compared to 100%.

You can increase the quality to 100% by clicking Save > Export Settings > Format > JPEG and increasing the slider to 100.

Thank you my friend. I looked at what you said while I was editing the photo then saving it and that’s how I found where the settings are. I did another post on this I’m sorry about it. I got Lyme Disease and it has messed up my short term memory so basically I have to look at things several times to be able to remember how to do them. Once again thank you for taking the time to read my post and replying to it.As it turns out I had images saved at 95% now they are being saved at 100% which is exactly what I wanted them to be!

I’m glad you found this setting. No worries, we all have to play around with the settings a little bit to get familiar with them. Happy editing and let me know if you have any other questions.

When using it as a stand alone and processing multiple jpegs there doesn’t seem to be a way to change the default from 95%, or am I missing something?

The quality slider will be in the export panel when you hit save.

Thanks. I had selected “Preserve Input Format” which doesn’t give the option, however selecting jpeg does. (I really can’t say that I see a difference between 95% & 100% though.)

(b-t-w, is there any difference at all between the following three suffixes - .jpg .JPG .jpeg ?)

The only difference is naming convention and not in the image itself.

Glad that fixed it for you!

I have my JPEG settings to 100%. My saved files are still about 2/3 of the original size. I am using with LRC.
