What's the fastest video codec for M1/M2 chips?

I’m running Proteus on Auto on 4k 24fps footage, ProRes 422 LT, and it’s going at 1-2fps, so a 1.5hr long video is taking upwards of 20 hours even on high power mode. I’m using a MacBook Pro M2 Max 12-C CPU, 38-C GPU, and 96GB of RAM, and I feel like it can do a lot better than 2fps.

I also know that ProRes can make extremely large files, which I’m also not a huge fan of, but I film my videos at XAVC S-I 4K 10-bit, and I run them through Video AI before color grading and editing, so I would like to still have that color data to be able to color grade with more flexibility. Is there a faster codec I can use that would still retain the video quality? Or at least without a drastic drop in quality?

I personally would just stick with ProRes LT since it’s something that your Mac can accelerate (decoding / encoding) in hardware.

BTW depending on which mac you have (14/16), consider using something like istat to run the fans at high during renders to keep temps (particularly battery temps) low.
