I recently bought the latest Doctor Who S1-S4 box set that should be remastered with the latest techniques from 2023 and I am utterly disappointed.
I suspect they slapped the upscaled DVD footage on a BD with minor changes and that is that. I don’t recall them filming in HD until later. At least they got the frame rate properly this time with the release.
Anyway…
I’m trying to do my own upscale of it to 4K. The footage scan type is MBAFF. Should I treat it like interlaced footage? Will Dione DV be enough in this case?
MBAFF should be interleaved and I would recommend treating it as interlaced. Here is a previous thread with some good explanations and some setting suggestions.
