Hello, i just changed rtx 4070 dual on my system , because turns out 12gb not enough for Resolve. 4090 is too expensive for my budget , so i got AMD 7900 xt 20 gb with 320 bit bus against 190 4070 have. Although VAI bench dropped down to 10 fps from 15 4070 had. I7 14700kf 14th gen with 64g ddr5 on. 6800mhz. M2 RAID ON 4X samsung pro 1tb
Seems like tensor cores are that important or CUDA ?
I did now buy the BeQuiet adapter, it fits right into my PSU.
Not only tensor cores, the whole software thing is better supported by nvidia than AMD, nvidia is on AI since 2016, AMD since 2023 ( it became important to AMD in 2023, before not that much).
No, the models are already from Topazlabs, my point was to explain that nvidia has invested more in AI than AMD, AMD has matrix cores with RDNA 3 but they don’t work with 4 times the performance.
I have a question about dual gpu set ups. For those of you running dual gpus, do you use air or liquid cooling for your cpu? Would one work better than the other – like would an air cooler on the cpu siphon airflow away from the gpus?
It depends on the case design and how air flows through it.
I have two dual processor/dual GPU workstations. The older one has a case that is pretty much a big box, just a couple of ducts to flow air past the memory. Temps on the downstream CPU are typically 5 degrees higher than the upstream CPU, and the GPUs all take in air that’s being warmed a bit by the CPUs. The newer one has ducts that direct outside air individually to each CPU, the memory and the GPU bay, and temps are even everywhere. Both are fully air-cooled, and both use workstation GPUs, so none of the GPUs are getting fed exhaust from the other GPUs.
can I ask what case your are using current?
another alternative is to use an open board setup. Would that result in the best thermals?
The older PC is a Dell T7600. The newer one is an HP Z8 G4. They are both repurposed CAD workstations.
Open board would probably be better than closed case, but not practical in a home with pets.

On one of my older systems, the secondary GPU stopped working. Turned out the power connector was loose. I disconnected/reconnected and all is well. This GPU hadn’t been unplugged in years, so I think the connector became loosened when the system was opened for a routine dust blowout. I shudder to think what might have happened if that had been a 4090.
Question for you.
When I undervolt (Sane Undervolt) my 4070 TVAI gets to about 80% and will error out.
Can you do a full encode ?
Seems pretty good to me based on the video card you have. Why do you think it is slow?
