Upscaling SD footage: What are my options now?

I have some SD footage (some 4:3 and some 16:9) from our holidays abroad which includes places like Syria and locations that no longer exist. I’ve done some upscaling of some of these videos before using older versions of Video AI but I’ve only done about a third of them.

If I were to upgrade Video AI, which is quite expensive, I’d probably only pay once and then get this task done and then I wouldn’t need to use Video AI again as all of my other footage is FHD or 4K. But I am very confused with:

  • what versions of Video AI are available now and which one would be best for me
  • which upscaling model would be best to use (I have read a bit about Starlight but am not confident I fully understand it)
  • do I have to do all of the upscaling/rendering in the cloud now? or can I render locally?

What is my most cost effective (and ideally local) solution?

Video AI is not a legacy app and is no longer for sale.

Topaz Video is the new app that will receive new features and can be purchased here.

You are not required to render in the cloud, if you would like to use the Starlight family of models locally, you will need a Pro license.

The most cost-effective solution is the annual billing paid for the full year up front.
