Topaz Video cannot open files with names that contain | (pipe)

macOS 26.5, Topaz Video 1.6.1

Steps to reproduce

  1. find any file that Topaz Video will currently open
  2. rename the file to include | (eg. test|.mp4)
  3. try to open the file in Topaz Video

Expected outcome

  • file is opened without error as | in a filename, while unusual, is valid

Actual outcome

  • an error reporting that the file cannot be opened due to its contents: The following files could not be loaded. Please ensure they are valid video or image files, or convert your file to one of our supported types.

Can you grab the logs from your app and send in for review so we can compare to internal testing into this situation? If you can email them to the support team at help@topazlabs.com that will be helpful.

To gather logs, please select Help > Logging > Get Logs for Support and attach the zip file to your reply.

Here is a video to help with the steps of how to collect the logs.

Done.

In case it helps to narrow down where the problem is, I’m able to load files including the pipe symbol without error in version 1.6.0 and MacOS 26.5. (I haven’t yet updated to 1.6.1.)

Thanks, updating the team and having them look further into this situation.
