Topaz Video AI v3.4.0

Maybe it’s automatically selected now?

Could be, also found another odd thing, when selecting which processor to use “Auto, CPU, GPU”, when I choose GPU, I find it only uses 20% GPU and 90-100% CPU, I now chose “Auto” and its using 50-68% GPU and 90-100% CPU, eh? Haha, so picking my GPU as my AI processor leads to it uses it less. lol, I have a 4080 16G.

I tried the “Auto” and “GPU” options on the same video and same model which was Iris at 4K. I would’ve thought the GPU usage would be the same or better when selecting GPU, but I get better usage when selecting Auto.

Did you time it to see if it completes faster while using more CPU and GPU?

How about you test it yourself? The customers are paying for the software, I don’t remember me being paid to be the tester here.
The preview on Windows has been completely and utterly broken since forever. How much are we supposed to complain in order to get this thing finally fixed?

Iris 1x and 2x models are still completely broken on MacOS Sonoma Beta.

I’m not staff and was only providing a suggestion to try, so you can drop the attitude, buddy.

Sorry then, “LEADER” to me definitely suggests staff. My bad, but I’m just completely frustrated about this stupid issue that hasn’t been fixed in like a million releases…

Hey, i’m not into TVAI at the moment.

Whats the Problem with the Preview?

I’m going to assume it’s something to do with what I described here:

In my case, Topaz Video AI v3.4.0 - #9 by Imo best reflects the issue. Was so happy when I saw the big “preview experience” improvements recently, only to find on the first try that it doesn’t work at all: just displays first few frames in best case and then stops. Sometimes pause/play button work for a frame or two, but that’s it…

Seems those preview issues are mostly on Windows, though.

You’re right. The same video, the same processing, no issues on a Mac…

I try to imagine what is going on.

So it’s about the export preview.

We have an open container, so to speak, that contains the data, which is opened and closed again and again.

Or it’s individual videos, snippets that are shown.

Because TVAI is still being generated and the GPU, depending on its size, is quite well utilised, it can stutter.

That reminds me, deactivate the game mode and the sheduler in Windows, and tell me if anything has changed. I know, the last time I deactivated the game mode, it ran better, but that was a while ago.

Tried it and didn’t notice any difference, thanks for the suggestion though.

I think they should develop an alternative solution for side-by-side comparison, because I don’t think they can fix the real-time comparison the way its displayed now. Maybe they should add a command button to generate an on-demand still image of the input frame and output frame side-by-side. Maybe the frames can be matched by adding code to the click event of the command button and then it launches the image in the Windows default viewer?

Indeed, I have exactly the same issue, my Nvidia card is no longer selectable…

On the Mac previews do work - so it must be possible on Windows as well.

See here for a screen recording of a live preview of an actual encode:

Preview performance on Windows also varies greatly depending on input resolution and output codec. The higher resolution the input is, the worse preview gets. Once you get past 720p input, it really tanks. Also, ProRes output performs much better in the preview, almost perfectly. Unfortunately, I have no use for ProRes due to the massive file sizes.

Sry to be negative to the DEV team at Topaz but, as I said here on these forums lots of times, they don’t seem to fix old issues and remain ‘stubborn’(?) to add things but do not seem to be concerned by all our feedback.

I really like to have 1 big update release per month than weekly seeing that so many of use are still repeating the same issues and old problems that they are not addressing.

Preview is really slow and bad that there is always a time delay of many secs, performance is a bit improved but the quality is not there…etc. etc.

But…that’s my point of view, I really think that there is a lot of hard work and dedication to their product but PLEASE Topaz give us a detailed roadmap of the things you’re are addressing in the next months and please ADD all the old issues/problems that we are addressing to this list.
Thanks!
