Topaz Video AI and Astra

Hi, I own Topaz Video AI - latest version. I am not that good with it and I can’t seem to get good 2K outputs, but thats on ME. Are there any versions of Topaz that are more AI Driven (creative upscale) where it does a better job on its own when it upscales? Like Astra, etc? I saw these new models in my Topaz when I updated and I don’t know which one to use. My max upscale for now is about 2k for regular HD TV Broadcast.

I guess my question is: Does my Topaz Video AI app have a creative upscale model?

THANK YOU!!!

Video AI as a stand-alone app does not have a creative upscale model that uses generative AI to create new content. That is the focus of Astra at this time. Video AI focuses more on enhancing the source material to restore details, adjust frame rate for playback, stabilize and upscale when needed.

If you would like to reach out to the support team directly at help@topazlabs.com we can run some tests on a video sample to help recommend some settings for you. The model and settings used will be based on the quality and content that you are using.

Thank you! Quick question on StarLight Mini. When I go to use it it asks some strange question about that it is its own app and do I wish to download something? Its a little dialogue box. When I run it I always click on that box. Do I have to? And what is it for?

The Starlight Mini model will run a check and then download to your system for use. It should only have to do this once and then be able to use the Mini again via the app.

OK cool! But for some reason it has me click on that every time I run it. Meaning, every time I launch the APP and choose to run Mini. That normal?

How can I use Astra? I have an RTX 4090 - i think lol
Can Astra be used on the cloud with credits?

No that is not normal, can you send the logs from the app to us at help@topazlabs.com to review?

Astra is a separate app available via the web interface with a subscription plan. It is a different tool with its own license agreement.

Astra

OK thank you!!

WOW!! thank you so much!! Very helpful!

Hello.

One would argue that VAi’s legacy models could process close to or the exact same results here.

If you guys are going to compare new models results, especially cloud-based only models, please compare them also with TVAi legacy models (and settings used) because anything less would come off as fake news to many folks.

I used all models. Nothing delivered this consistency. Starlight was the best one but Astra was better in this case.

Astra works best when there are no known faces in the scene. But it is way too expensive and slow and can deliver unwanted results in bold modus one can not influence. So you get an almost perfect result with one tiny element that is not wanted and you cannot use it because of this detail.

60 year old, badly archived footage. Recreation with ASTRA. Hard to say how accurate this is. I wasn’t arround 60 years ago

my first impression is Astra is something like Rhea, just better. It seems to be something like opposite of Starlight, which produces smooth, sometimes little bit blury but fine details results. Astra is more for rough strong contours, no blur. What I wish is both fused together, then user can take control the result goes more in one direction or the other

Combination of different models. Too expensive. Used all my credits. But the result is amazing if you watch it on a larger screen.

Thank you for all the help. I have a project that is animated in KLING (short 5 sec clips) and I need to upscale just a small amount and increase details. I am wondering if I should try Astra for one month and see. Reah can do a decent job, but it does not really add details. Starlight is OK too. But I need true AI to add more details and Scale. Like Magnific?

RheaXL does high reconstructions, simillar to Astra, but can produce worse artefacts, Astra seems better but is unfortunately cloud only. When you try it out do the upscale with SLM first, then RheaXL 1x and you get max details today possible with local models…sure not perfect and artefacts could happen, pending on source the result could differ from amazing to unuseable

You never know what you gonna get. Some results are absolutely stunning. And it is a little bit addictive. I did spend several hundreds of credits on tests, and it’s only the beginning of the month. 4th of July and no credits left. Even 3 seconds of preview costs credits.
