We asked exactly the same thing, when going from version 2 to version 3, but in reverse. It was a completely different application, including the name, so why was it version 3 instead of version 1? In my opinion, it was a marketing ploy to make the application appear mature and well tested, but in reality, it wasn’t. Version 1 and 2 solely were for upscaling, leaving all the other preprocessing and post-processing tasks to other programs, many of which can do much better job than Topaz and cost absolutely nothing (unless you want to make a donation to the developer). They should have continued on like version 2, solely dedicated to upscaling and model development and leave all the other tasks to other tools.

due to the fact that the models have not been updated for a long time, TopazVideoAI6 is already worse than other programs.

TopazVideoAI is the best AI program to enhance videos like no other program and the latest version keeps getting better and better.

Troll go to sleep

You need people like me who think everything is great and you also have to be like me, thank you.

so you are hired by Topaz to do this

My workflow always involves pre-processing and post-processing, before and after TVAI. I use Hybrid to de-interlace and convert to square pixel. I work in lossless format until the final step, which is usually conversion to H.265 in Handbrake with constant quality settings. I also do my audio processing outside of TVAI. I take this path, because I prefer QTGMC de-interlacing, in most cases to BWDIF. I also find greater control of final compression using my own advanced parameters in Handbrake.

qtgmc loses too much detail if you don’t use the “draft” preset. And if you also complete the temporal denoising with 1, 2 or 3, it’s over, the details will be unrealistic especially in movements where they will be missing.

With anything, you have to pick your settings. I base my use of QTGMC with my settings on visual comparison to BWDIF. I routinely use a temporal denoising set to 1, with terrific results. IMO, 2 or 3 should only be used for noisier source material. Picking the wrong model in TVAI or using the dehalo slider to any degree can do far more damage to image detail than deinterlacing with a quality de-interlacer.

me too, we have similar workflows

I’ve tried a lot of different deinterlacers, and I can assure you that for QTGMC with a preset above Draft, you lose details, with “final temporal smoothing” at 1, you lose too much detail on the movements. The best I found is Muksun with VirtualDub, or MSU. These are the two that keep the most details. Then Yadif is the third best, and QTGMC is behind. I’m talking about preserving details, the edges are not smooth with Muksun and MSU, there are staircase effects but Proteus v4 is powerful enough to repair them. Of course, if you want to denoise better, you will use QTGMC, but from the moment you denoise, you lose details that you will not be able to recover with any VAI model.

There are quite a few comparisons here. Look at QTGMC with the Draft preset; it renders less detail than Muksun, MSU, or Yadif:

Here I’ve included a lot of comparisons between original/deinterlaced and Proteus.
It’s from a while ago, I found slightly better settings where fine details look more realistic. But if I had used QTGMC, I wouldn’t have as much detail

There has been some improvement in speed after the Torch update, but it’s still not twice as fast like with the 4000 series. When can we expect full support for the 5000 series?

workaround for this, choose h264 then go back to prores422hq, preview works properly after doing this for whatever reason. Has to be done every time you start the program.

HI , Need help in what GPU to buy , Obviously there hard to get at a MSRP price . I have just started to put together a new Desktop that will run windows 11 with 64mg memory , AMD - Ryzen 7 9700X CPU , Samsung 2TB 990pro NVME , ASUS - TUF GAMING B650-PLUS motherboard , I will be only using my GPU for upgrading my 480i/480p content to 1080P , Models will vary , I have a little experience and some stuff has come out good to great , But takes days to weeks with my 10 year old PC . So its time . I have seen some figures but they give a overall rating putting the AMD 9070xt near the top , I’m not doing 4K or any gaming whatsoever , I just want this to be the fastest possible . What cards should I be looking at , rtx 5070 , Amd 9070 , more money rtx 5070ti , Amd 9070XT , I do not want anything that can’t beat a 4070super that I briefly had in my old system and it still didn’t quite cut it . But then again it was paired with a Intel i7 10 year old CPU . I made the mistake and returned the 4070 super . So I’m only looking at new versions and nothing used . I can get the rtx 5070 at $600 which is not bad and about what the 4070S was . Any help would be appreciated . Thanks .

Never, ever buy AMD cards in to work with Topaz products.
Topaz does not optimise the software to work with AMD or Intel GPUs.
Your best bet would be 16 or even 24GB NVIDIA card, because of Starlight Mini easily eating up all your VGAM.
I can recommend 5070Ti, just because of 16GB VRAM. I have 4070 and 12GB is just enough to squeese Starlight mini into, but anything more than 480p processing is overflowing dedicated VRAM and slowing the process.

Things are in change…if you have a working 4070Ti why not take this into new system and wait in which direction it goes with Starlight mini. You can replace graphics cards at any time

Thank all for the suggestions and I’m going to avoid AMD GPUS if there not optimized. The report said they were . It was something reviews that were done in Germany. No I don’t have the 4070 . I returned it and I just have an old stock 10 year old pc at the moment. I’m building from scratch . I would love you be able to get the 5070ti but not over for $900 I have seen some MSI . I’m hoping Nvidia comes out with a 5070 super . I’m not in a huge rush but like to get something say Amazon prime day when they offer ages visa store cards with a $200 gift card . Mid July . Thanks .

What does this starlight do that the others can’t ? I read it’s painfully slow .
