Has the Resolve plugin issue been resolved in TVAI 5.5?
Unless the Resolve plugin issue is resolved, we cannot update to a newer version.
Hello.
Yeah, I’ve stated this concern elsewhere hoping to save users from storing unnecessary UNKNOWN extra register entries (100s) to their system, and as expected, no acknowledgement from Topaz’s staff.
Ever since the f$$$in’ mpv player was introduced into the cheap UI I can’t even F$$$in’ USE THE PROGRAM as the f$$$in’ program keeps glitching out, so this program is dead weight for me!
Yeah, I’m pretty pissed, as I can’t even test the F$$$in’ program that I pay hundreds of dollars annually for!
While I suspect that cloud-rendering has been implemented to generate more income, it is also a way to make the software “work” for people who don’t have powerful (expensive) PC’s and thus offers something of value for the extra expense.
The cloud render option needs to be defeatable in the menu though. (So that it doesn’t even show up in the user interface)
True. But at ca. $100 per movie ( see Topaz Video AI 5.5 - #13 by meimeiriver ), and me doing 1 movie per day, we’re looking at around $3,180 a month. Clearly not happening.
These latest updates have been unfortunate! Since MPV is open source, why don’t you develop a version of MPV that works internally within Topaz Video AI, without the user having to install MPV separately and set it as the system’s default media player?
Yeah, it’s pretty lazy to integrate an open-source program into a commercial one instead of developing one that has been specifically made to work with the bare-bones GUI…
I even ran the bloody batch file and the installer could not find the path to mpv.exe, so I can’t even install the player, but I will try setting the player’s executable as the default and see if that helps… otherwise I can’t even use the program at all!
As it stands, the damn player works in opposition to the program’s bare-boned GUI at this point, as it can’t even maintain the UI long enough to even set my settings…
I also read that the preview doesn’t even save the temp files in the custom temp folder and defaults to the source folder and wipes the preview along with the source folder!
I swear, I’m beginning to believe that they don’t build new iterations upon the working code, and instead re-build the program from scratch for every internation.
And by build I mean by one of their international outsourced teams that refuse to open the program once finished coding for it before it’s released, as old bugs are constantly cropping up again, and again!
I downloaded and extracted the player’s zipfile, and launched the batch file as an administrator from the INSTALLER folder, and the CMD dialogue mentions that it can’t find the path, so what in the HELL am I doing wrong!?

Just want to clarify a few points here: the mpv implementation we’ve included in Video AI does not require a standalone installation of mpv on the system. The issues you’re describing could probably be resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of Video AI.
If you continue to run into these issues after a clean install, please direct message me your log files after importing a video and attempting playback. Thanks!
That is exactly what we’ve done, which is why I think the issues you and a few others have described are most likely unrelated to having a separate mpv installation.
The Cloud Rendering feature is targeted towards production teams that require rapid processing of long videos or very high parallelization for many individual videos, if you’re working on a movie collection I would suggest local rendering on your 4090 since you’d still get a significant amount of processing done in one day.
Just for fun (and because I had some free credits) I tried a cloud export on a small clip:

@tony.topazlabs the failed request ID is 01934c7a-9025-7ff4-9ad7-2c6c5508c792
Thanks a lot for the response, Tony, it is really appreciated!
But not only did I install/and reinstall the bloody programs (General release/beta) several times, I even installed them to newly made profiles, and they still exhibit the same behaviour of a flashing GUI that I can only interact with by adding a video, as the GUI is not stable enough to work in at all as I cannot even interact with the settings dialogue!
I will provide you with logs for the general release and betas, although I really have come to despise mpv.exe…
I uninstalled Topaz Video AI v5.50 with Revo Uninstaller, restarted the computer and did a clean installation of the same version 5.50, it doesn’t preview the video, I uninstalled it again with Revo Uninstaller and reinstalled version 5.3.6 and magically the video preview started working again, there are no excuses, versions from 5.4.0 onwards are not working correctly. It’s not the user’s fault, it’s the developer’s fault, we pay to use this program, the least you have to deliver is an application that works, have more respect for your customers.
Yeah, I didn’t install any external mpv, and still have Preview (on 5.4.0.8a).
This is being rolled out as a simple choice between cloud and local processing. But local batch processing is almost hidden, and cloud processing is emphasized and has an enormous additional cost that most home users cannot afford and did not ask for.
Also, it appears that local processing is being throttled. Version 5.4 upscaling 720P to 1080P was averaging 28 fps speed, while 5.5 is now 16 fps. A cynical person would say this is an attempt to push users to much more expensive cloud processing.
Hopefully version 5.6 will make it easier to identify how to start local batch processing and fix the decrease in processing speed for local processing.
Dont be excited, be ashamed and remove it. This is NOT a cloud application, its a desktop one. I have half a dozen 40 series GPUS in my rendering system, we do not want to pay for cloud credits we bought this application as a desktop application. YOU WANT A CLOUD APP YOU MAKE A DIFFERENT APP.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. But if it’s true, well, that would a pretty d move (and I leave to guess what d means). Let’s just hope it’s just a regression bug.
Well, I said a cynical person would think local is being throttled
The jury is still out. I’ll see if the next version restores the processing speed back to prior version performance.
Yes. So, someone (more knowledgeable than me) would have to come up with strong evidence. But is it bad that I wouldn’t put it past them at this point?
