Topaz Video AI 5.3.4

ProRes export to Mac Adobe Creative Suite still not fixed.

Setting in/out doesn’t work.

And just clicking in the timeline to move the playhead takes 8-16 seconds to update my Mac Studio M2 Ultra.

Not impressed.

Since upgrading to version 5.3.4, the software enters trial mode every time it starts. Even after activation, it reverts to trial mode each time.

I know I said this before, but this time I really may not renew any more – especially with the huge price-increase.

Hello.

I see the advertisement of GP 8.0 and VAi 5.3.4, from other outlets, so I decided to lurk in here a little bit.

That above statement is not unusual for Topaz, and, IMO, it could be even comical to Topaz.

Why?

Like many software companies, one perpetual payment is all what is needed (for lifetime use for that software with free patch updates & free feature updates); but Topaz has managed to get extra money from users here for years, every year, where they shouldn’t have. That’s a win-win for Topaz.

So, IMO, Topaz has already benefited (A LOT… mostly unaccountable extra revenue) and a minus from an existing customer(s) won’t matter much because Topaz main focus is… new customers.

Think about that.

You are just like me bugs being fixed that some sustaining engineer found anyway i still found some gems by lack of real progres artemis v3 medium halo and artemis moire Copilot helped me that this is very nice to run after rhea and after irisv1. I still cannot watch RXL not ready

Yes this is True on the other hand since the changes are incremental you simply wait 3 years and if we do all Topaz will change it s license policy documentation is anyway sparse according to coplilot for topaz

Part of the problem is that training and testing AI models is expensive and probably always will be a major ongoing expense. Non-AI software is much cheaper to maintain.

But, yes, quality control in the release chain is obviously not as it should be. I really wonder if there should be separate streams for stable vs. cutting edge. I have never been keen on the modern industry trend of mixing Beta and Release into a single product.

No one does it.
Even your most basic software company will at least do a Dev/QA/Prod cycle using Agile, and most do Dev/Int/QA/Prod. In the first example this would be Alpha/Internal Testing, Beta, Release. In the second example Alpha, Internal Testing, Beta, Prod. Now I obviously have no proof of this, but it seems like Topaz does Dev/Prod, Beta and release… with an occasional very alpha build like HDR, and skips internal testing and lets us do it. Again it feels like their Dev is Beta, and then they just rename that to prod and release it as is without changes. It happens, more lately, they might do a Beta build that is pretty broken so they have to do a second with an A or B at the end. It seems like a horrible environment to develop in if that is the case and would certainly be a really good reason why so many bugs get forgot about or revisited 40 times.

These guys need to fire management, all of them, hire a competent VP, hire a competent Devops Manager/project manager, and lastly, for the love of god, hire a actual UIX designer and not someones nephew that “knows computers” because that is what the UI feels like. I have already mentioned the UI gets dumber and more simplistic or idiot user friendly, all of things an enterprise app does not concentrate on.

I will lastly reiterate, with their new insult to customers pricing model, where they give you literally no extra features than you currently pay for, just at a more expensive price, they should be making the non-pro version significantly cheaper, being it is not Professional version and is instead for Home/SB and should cost sub $100 as such. You don’t get to have it both ways Topaz, either it is a non-enterprise/pro edition and you sell it vastly cheaper, or your enterprise/pro version is flat out a lie and you just are greedy beyond belief and will lose your customers. Add on the “we own all your projects and can use them freely”, and you have just become the failing AAA gaming scene AND the in serious trouble Adobe for doing the same thing. Once again, if your leadership thinks this is the way forward, they should not be the leadership, or at least I hope all your devs are brushing up your resumes for the inevitable.

Right your ship Topaz, you are headed directly for the shore currently. And if your customers are going out of their way to join your forums and post about how bad this direction is, you might listen, they are your customers and they are telling you what they want.

Does anyone know about VideoGigaGAN, and it’s capabilities? It seems with growing competition, the game’s afoot for TVAI, which is good for innovation, but bad if you are stagnating.

When will the HDR conversion function be implemented?
I am looking forward to it!

There’s no cycle, this is clearly FULL agile, with cross checks processes. It’s obvious each team working in its corner.

Same here, using Tree Size to chase all the hidden files written and there are tons of it.

This seems to be normal behavior: the %TEMP% folder is where temporary files are supposed to be stored. This is far better than putting them in the source or destination folders like some earlier versions did. And apps should never store user data in their installation folder, ever.

But… they are supposed to be temporary. There is a problem if they are not being deleted after they have been finished with.

You might want to try setting up Storage Sense to run daily to clear out %TEMP% folder automatically. Just be careful in case the temporary files are needed to be retained for paused operations.

Perhaps it would be useful if an optional setting were added to specify where temporary files are stored, but ideally they need to be on the same drive as the output folder and on an SDD to maintain speed and avoid long copy operations. But that would allow the possibility of a second SSD as scratch space for video projects.

Ran a simple small upscale yesterday and have not seen any folders appear. Combined with your experience, this suggests there may be specific triggering conditions for the problem where it still persists.

Wait, wait…

+1 for this

I read it can only render 4 frames at a time, but it shows where the Topaz competition will eventually come from. What I have seen, blows the doors of TVAI.

I think topaz just training their models on simple videos, they can’t train their models on licensed content… I have terrabaytes of blu ray movies, prores music videos in pure quality, i wish i can share those data with them! Topaz team if you reading thing, pls let users help to train your models on hq content in our systems. Or make some application that you can use our gpu’s and storage to train your models

Imagine what results will happen in thousand of users will train petabaytes of video material!!

That’s awesome. My update window just expired. So now, I have to renew my license just to fix major bugs in the version I paid for. New features are understandable. But bug fixes? I don’t think I will continue being on the receiving end of this business model.
