Topaz Video AI 5.3.1

Do you mind sharing what you’re seeing that’s broken? Thanks

Well, lurking through the forum just now, Proteus4 has oddles of complaints, some even say that Proteus4 is worse than P3.

So, clearly this model’s results is very subjective per content/user and placing a badge/icon next to it will not changed that for many unfortunately.

Well said. That’s early adopters for you. Wah, wah, wah. It’s always been that way. It’s not easy to be on the leading edge. I’ve been on the (b)leading edge of computer applications for film and video post-production since ancient times, always part of a tiny customer base. (Read “customer” as “guinea pig.”) I knew what I was doing, and still do. I owe much of my career success over the years to software developers risking much more than I am when I fork out a few hundred bucks for their software. Not getting what you paid for? Time so switch to applications that are more reasonably priced? Good luck with that.

Just write me off as an old man who’s weary of a world where people sometimes don’t seem to know how lucky they are.

Every model has oodles of complaints. Topaz made Proteus to be the best model to start on with most videos—and they describe it that way. I disagree with anyone that says otherwise.

If anyone asks me what to try first, Proteus is what I will tell them—but not because Topaz suggested it to me. Mostly because I have processed over 1000 videos and found manual settings for all of them that are better than what the other models can do.

especially when they show up in the release versions even after getting a negative reaction from users in the beta phase.

Hello.

Catching up with the status of TVAi from 3-4Q23, I see some crazy price hikes today (up to 5K?!?! Seriously?! This gotta be a typo!)

That said, IMO, it’s clear to me that many of these reported “tests” results were ignored, IMO mostly due to Topaz Labs only cared about the reports that could affect Topaz new enterprise plan (not Pro anything it seems to me) that could have business jumping ship if certain protocols weren’t ironed out, IMO.

Topaz made Proteus to be the best model to start on with most videos—and they describe it that way

I respect your opinion, but to be honest, Topaz claims is just marketing and the real truth is right here in this forum and other outlets, that goes against many of these… “claims.”

I believe it would be fair to grant the functionality (multi-GPU and CLI) back for those customers, who have bought ‘old’ licenses previously - Topaz first walked back from perpetual license (I had it for every AI product released back then) to pay-annually-for-updates licensing, and now they are taking back another functionality, which was available for every paid customer back when AI product line started.

Put me down as someone who doesn’t like the new interface. I would like to see efforts put in into working on the models instead

I feel sorry for folks who live in the DFW metroplex. Nothing but 225 square miles of hot asphalt and concrete, and getting hotter. Lived in Grand Prairie for 15 years and finally made my escape to Alpine, Wyoming four months ago.

What kinds of speeds are you guys getting with Rhea v2? I’m still on version 5.2 and with that version I’m getting 24fps conversion speed to take a 480p cartoon up to 1080p. Settings are set to Progressive and Auto.

I was told that these speeds were too fast and not realistic, but it’s what I am getting. I’ll have to upgrade soon and then run more tests to see if I get the same speeds. I’m on a 4090.

Really? You must not have used it much this past year.

Personally, I’ve been using it non-stop for 3 months now and I won’t position myself in the idealism that is yours.

There are evident plenty of problem. We don’t flame eyesless Topaz, but the way they add some features whose usefulness is questionable are of great concern to the community, who are in fact customers, nothing more, nothing less.

Completely agree!
The new carousel brings nothing great but something hurtful, which takes more spaces.

THANK YOU for the overview video! Please do this each time.

I’m running Alienware M15 R6 and your updates on my rig are out of this world. The UI is pretty awesome and intuitive. I found a lot more tooltips to help me know what I am using and the function’s use cases. Absolutely love the shortcuts. The carousel is a smart idea because it shows the use case in visual format. Hey, what a concept…an audio/visual product providing audio/visual examples of how their models are used. Hahahha. Honestly I love your guys’ work over certain subscription-based products that are lagging the market. I really appreciate your team’s hard work and look forward to great developments. Keep the pipeline going, and good luck on future releases!

Metadata in MKV’s are lost and when upscaling a PAR of 1:1 can become 1:1.000161 which leads some leading software to display it wrong.
This can be corrected with MKVtoolnix

Or just take it out.
No-one asked for it and it takes too much space.
You had to move the export settings to some hidden place for that.

People asked for better export settings and they’re not getting it. Instead they get a useless carrousel.

"Hey Pete, can you add some extra features to the export section? At the moment it’s a bit primitive and it can do with some more options…
Mmmm, no John, I’m now building this awesome carrousel and it looks great. I’m still looking for nice photos to add. Maybe you can hide that exports section, because I need some extra room for this??
It’s gonna look great and I’m sure they will all love it."

It’s as slow as a dehydrated snail.
I’ve got a 4070 and used it twice and went back to Iris.
At first glance it seemed to do better than Iris, but then noticed more deformation.

I can’t tell much more as I can’t use it when it’s that slow.

I agree with you on this statement. Artemis has not seen an update in a long time either.

Hello.

Observing from my last encounter with TVAi '23, around the holidays, up to today, IMO, these models are now legacy software (especially Gaia and Theia), a form of development obsolescence that will be superseded in the near future.

I’ve used it every other day for at least 4 hours per day for the past 6 months, so I’d say I’m a pretty I’m a moderate user.
