Updated to latest version, loaded a file, performed a few previews, program abruptly ended, reloaded program and it was back to empty. What part of reloading workspace after crash am I misunderstanding.
hot fix patch will be released later Monday to resolve the VFR issue.

Why are my conversions now finishing countdown complete but creating a temp file and copying from that almost doubling the amount of time it takes to do it? I remember in 4 I had to turn some preview thing off to get it to complete when the countdown finished and not create a temp file.
Best version by far Topaz Video AI v3.2.2
The performance kept getting worse and worse and version 4 only added included AC3 conversion, which was very useful. Sometime after that my sub expired and seen no reason to renew.
Now I see that version 5 added actual working pause and start without losing progress, which again, is very useful… but has the performance been fixed?
I’m mainly using Artemis HQ which is near magical with my Blu-Ray collection and the times went from ~1h45m to over ~2h30m for a ~50m episode and ~4h to ~6h for a movie from 2K to 4K. 4K to 8K movies used to take 20 hours or so, but got bloated to 1 day and at least 6 hours to 2 days… on a RTX 4090!!!
Which, BTW, saw no difference in time when upgrading from the RTX 3080 Ti to the 4090. In fact, with each version past 3.2.2, it only went incrementally up.
3.2.2 is peak Topaz and wish they get rid of the bloat and bring that high optimization back. Really want to support this product and get the very useful included AC3 conversion and pause/resume functions, but they aren’t listening.

I am finding that Aion and Nyx are both working with less and less videos/movies than ever before. I had Nyx fail on at least 5 videos, and Aion around the same. Aion also seems to go ULTRA slow on any 4k material. One 2 hour movie looks like it will take 14 days and is maxing out at about 0.5 - 0.8 fps. I am really liking nyx, it seems to do darn near a better job at noise control without major loss of quality, but man it is moody!
Broken - not working! I just tried to use new v5.0 to do a 4K upscale (to HEVC H265 Main10 matching 4K disc format) of a Pans Labyrinth Bluray MKV I have and the resulting output is all broken/corrupted! I only input one file and what it output was three corrupt files of weird sizes in 4K HEVC - one of them doesn’t play/open at all, the other one (the _prob4 file) plays but begins in middle of movie at chapter 5 and the audio is not matching! This took 8 hours of processing on 5950X and all I’m left with is broken crap. I paused the processing once in middle and put PC to sleep for the night, then resumed it again the next morning. What’s going on??
Top video here is original Bluray rip… bottom three are what Video AI dumped out for some reason.
The processing finished at around 17:23 so no idea what the files written at 1:00 and 17:06 are (although 1:00am might be around time I paused it before putting to sleep)
Thank you for the pause/resume. That actually is a huge step up for me using Topaz.
As a video guy who shoots on a Nikon Z8, the Denoise function is the most important feature for me.
The Z8 is a great camera. But in sub-optimal lighting conditions, the noise can be so bad it looks like there is a grease fire in the background low light areas of say, a theatre or Church venue.
Topaz does an excellent job of reducing it to useable, even if it takes a couple of days for a 35 minute video on a Macbook Pro.
But I just wanted to mention that the Denoise (NYX) is also a central feature of this software for many of us, while the upscale is cool, but relatively a side feature.
If there are tutorials on how to use the Denoise and the new Denoise fast features and adjust settings for best results under varied circumstances, I would watch it a few times.

Source is just take any Bluray rip done using MakeMKV in its original video format like below and use settings as in my screenshot above and make sure to pause in middle, put PC to sleep, then wake and resume processing - I don’t really think a 25GB test file is feasible to upload.

That’s been my experience with sleep mode in computers since Windows XP. You wake it up and things are broken.

Nope - I sleep and wake my home and work PCs every day for the last 4 years since working from home any have no trouble with them. Sleep doesn’t break anything if your PC is stable - only if you have an unstable overclock (CPU and/or main RAM) does it possibly fail since the memory dump is corrupt on wake after it is either written or read back from disc and the unstable memory does not match (fails CRC checks) - either does not start or does start but any amount of random chaos in the memory space shows up as all sorts of problems at any random time later. I don’t do any sort of overclocking any more for this very reason - not worth it for all the corruption to files/memory it causes without people knowing.
The pause/resume functionality of this should not be affected by sleeping - it shouldn’t even know about it… as far as its concerned, it was paused and then resumed. In fact I bet this problem would have happened even if I didn’t put it to sleep - most likely just the pause/resume caused it.
I also experienced Video AI to drop an error sometimes when I wake up my PC from the sleep mode which version 3.x and 4.x of Video AI did not but I agree to geogan that the pause option might have a different issue here!
Agree…Topaz is just superb on high quality modern digital media….but the emphasis on VHS restoration is “lacking.”
As the Baby Boomers retire…there is a tremendous growing need for quality restoration of VHS which was probaly the most used the medium of their day. Viewing transferred VHS on modern devices like iPads or quality monitors or TVs is a totally disappointing experience for these folks.
The technical capability is there….it has just not been prioritized for this medium.
Please Topaz…consider some quality modules tailored specifically for low quality VHS medium.

Nyx 3 ? I don’t have that on mine, Nyx Fast and Nyx only.
Any reason why my update has no listing for Nyx 3? I have Nyx and Nyx Fast.
I should add that Nyx Fast has been useless so far whatever it is.
I’m on Windows latest version, NVidia GeForce RTX (it is what Topaz is set to use.
Not understanding this If Nyx 3 is a newer model version then why did it not show up until I checked “enable previous model versions” scratching my head…
If “enable previous model versions” is unchecked, Video AI will always use the latest version of a selected model. In this case, your system was always running Nyx v3.
