This version of Starlight mini is very slow.
GPU usage fluctuates significantly, and GPU memory usage becomes fully saturated, causing system lag.
I have reverted to the previous version.
Starlight still producing the strange results that were reported last year. Also Nyx XL not working as second enhancement (OK as first enhancement). I’m on Mac Silicon.
And by that take half of the motor out again or limit the gearshift to the first three; as they did when they fixed a similar issue with Iris in the TVAI 4.x days - which btw. never got corrected up to now leaving Mac users with about 60% of the expected/possible performance for especially the Iris 2x model…
Starlight Sharp (local processing) is still not exporting audio with the processed video. This has been an ongoing problem since its release. Any word on a fix coming any time soon?
Yesterday, I did frame interpolation (Model Aion) from 30fps to 60fps. If it’s a factor of two, it produces CFR result…normally, but not if you have an odd number like 29.97. Unfortunately, that’s what I thought, but my 30 to 60 FPS produced VFR, probably because I had selected “replace double frame with interpolated.” In addition, TVAI 1.1 job aborted twice during frame interpolation, displaying “recoverable error” so clicked twice recover, seems they know it’s not stable…
This is sad, the VFR problem exist since they implemented mplayer. I have now installed old TVAI 5.3.4, which I will use now exclusively for frame interpolation. This version worked flawlessly!
Not surprised at all and, honestly, I pretty much lost hope on this one. This issue has been lingering since after v5.3.6, which is the last version that does proper interpolation, at least for me. That’s why I am still using that version for this task.
Too many problems with this version, I’m rolling back. Can’t manually set the output folder for individual videos anymore, and sound encoding doesn’t work either. Plus as others mentioned, having to login in over and over every couple of hours is incredibly annoying. Like I get needing to ensure people’s license is up to date, but at least give us a few days before forcing us to login again. I never have to login over and over with software like Photoshop and AutoCAD, so there has got to be a better solution to this.
Can you send your logs to the support team for review into this? help@topazlabs.com
Ran a few tests today for users and had all of them come back with audio when running locally with SL Sharp, trying to replicate to narrow down if its an input source format/codec or export issue.
The problem with Starlight upscaling only to 720 no matter what option is chosen, is still there. I’ve complained about this ever since you guys removed the resolution options from the Output Resolution. This bug has made the whole program completely unusable.
This new version of Starlight Mini drops frames which were not dropped in 1.1.0. Using Nvidia.
Or, to be exact, the new version of the Starlight model is the problem, not the version of Topaz Video.
I have had issues before with frames being dropped with Starlight Mini, and I have seen reports of it here. So I implemented a workaround by padding 30 black frames at the beginning and 30 black frames at the end using ffmpeg. Then I run it through Starlight Mini. Then I check the number of frames is the same and remove the first and last 30 frames. Vibe coding helps
I used that with a dozen videos with 1.1.0 without problem.
I upgraded to 1.1.1, it deleted the model in ProgamData and downloaded the new Starlight Mini model.
After that, with the first video I tried, instead of 30 back frames at the beginning, I only got 24 black frames. So it dropped 6 frames at the beginning (no other frames were dropped).
I uninstalled 1.1.1 and installed 1.1.0 and it downloaded the Starlight Mini model again. I got the same result with only 24 black frames!
Thankfully I had a backup of my ProgramData folder so I replaced “C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Video” with the backup version from 1.1.0 and now it works, I get 30 black frames at the beginning and at the end.
I have backblaze with 1 year of history for cloud backup and macrium reflect for local backup (the free version which is not available anymore). I hate losing files
Lesson learned: you can downgrade the version of Topaz Video but you can’t downgrade the version of the Starlight Mini model (unless you have a backup of it).
