You can install the latest release of 1.0.4 using the links at the top and that will get you going. You do not have to install the previous installs of the app and then update.
The v1.0.4 EULA still contains the following (so I haven’t bothered to install it):
“Access to or use of the Command Line Interface (“CLI”) is strictly prohibited under a Personal License”
Here’s a reply on 20 September from the Director of Product:
I’m not going to let this rest until we get a proper answer. In the meantime, I’m sure other users will come to their own conclusions, given that Topaz have had several opportunities over several weeks to change the EULA - IF it is incorrect.
To be honest, I’m extremely disappointed with the current state of Topaz Video.
For almost two months now, there’s been nothing but minimal bug fixing, just enough to make the 1.0.X versions of Studios work about as well as the 7.0.X versions of Video AI.
Every now and then, there’s some announcement about “something big coming soon” and how “good things take time,” but in reality, nothing actually happens.
I’m starting to feel more and more that the switch to a subscription model is already showing its negative effects. I really don’t like where this is heading, and I’m definitely not the only one who feels this way.
Please don’t take my criticism the wrong way. I’m not asking for weekly updates full of half-broken or pointless features. That doesn’t help anyone in the end.
But at least keep your users in the loop. The ongoing silence combined with these tiny patches, basically just bug fixes, is not a good way to treat paying customers who want to keep supporting your product in the future.
There’s still the Frame Preview bug, which, initially, doesn’t work at all. For a workaround, the user needs to go to the options, and disable (or enable, next time the program is started) Cloud Processing, then press [Save & restart].
Starlight now truly exports in 4x resolution when this option is selected. The speed on my PC (I9 11900, RTX 4070) is also comparable to that of version 7.1.1. Version 1.0.4 runs more stably than previous versions. Thank you for this improvement!
Suffering from major issues with this release of Topaz Video on my all-AMD system running an RX 7900 XTX:
Firstly, running Starlight Beta results in a red error and aborts immediately.
Secondly (and more seriously) when trying to close the app after using Starlight, the entire system crashes to a black screen and I have to force the PC to shutdown. Trying a soft reset prevents the system from rebooting. Doing a full power down by flicking the switch on the back of the PSU, then waiting several minutes results in a successful reboot of Windows, but the display driver ends up being corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
At first I thought it may have been a hardware-related issue, but managed to replicate the condition of this crash FOUR TIMES now!
My secondary rig and my Mac systems are completely unaffected, so it’s not affecting my current workflow. I’m only really using Topaz Video on this system for testing purposes, so it’s not a massive hassle. Ultimately, I’ll probably switch to an Nvidia card once I get my backdated wage increase at the end of the year!
I should point out that neither of my Macs are able to run Starlight anyway due to the lack of unified RAM, as I was referring to their stability under MacOS versus my AMD system running under Windows 11.
