Topaz Studio | Transition Questions

This has happened to me as well, only says 8.4.4, although I do have an active subscription.

Found it, downloaded it, installed it and will discard it. :grin: For my stuff, the new models are no improvement at all (and Wonder is slow at that). No subscription for me, then. I shall have to keep using 8.4.x until it falls apart. :grin:

So, I’ve read some of the posts & replies &, frankly, don’t have the time or energy to read every single one.

What I don’t understand (& call me simple!) is, what is Topaz Studio? What will it do for me that Photo AI currently doesn’t (that’s what I have a current subscription for - & I understand that I’ll get a ā€œversionā€ of Topaz Studio, but need to have more than one subscription to get the ā€œbells & whistlesā€ version)

How much will my autorenew sub be going forward?

Previously, I’ve had PAI & renewed every 18 months or so, rather than annually. Seems that won’t be an option going forward or you’ll ā€œhave my pants downā€ on the renewal price I suspect.

I upgraded to PAI 3 from 2 as the marketing made it sound like it was a huge improvement. Well, I think it was an improvement, but not the major difference that I was expecting.

So, please explain to a simpleton like me exactly what Topaz Studio is & why I should continue to subscribe. BTW I’ve got nothing showing about Studio on my account/subscription page on your website & thought it was going to be there from the 16th

One final thing - I hate subscription model software & generally do all I can to avoid it, so you may well find that, like several others, I’ll be voting with my feet & credit card & not subscribing

The TL staff extended the deadline to 9/26 b/c so many of us didn’t receive any notification emails. You should be fine wrt getting ā€œFounderā€ benefits per that extension. :+1:

I think I’m going to take my own advice and avoid ā€œbuying a promiseā€.

This change has made Topaz offerings less valuable to me because of the subscription model and the impending bifurcation of new models such that FOMOing into the founder’s ā€œdiscountā€ doesn’t get me all the models going forward. -That’s going to cost extra.

This seems like a major downgrade compared to all the Topaz products I have purchased before.

If Topaz offers something I want to spend money on in the future, I will consider what they are offering vs the cost. (and if I can actually buy or merely borrow said thing)

I understand that whatever is offered in the future will cost more if I don’t ā€œsubscribeā€ now, but I’m not going to buy, or rather rent, a promise out of fear. Topaz can set whatever price they wish and even stipulate that it’s only a subscription on top of that. But a higher price on something I can’t even keep, after paying said high price, will have to be a very special ā€œsomethingā€.

Just so I understand, since I have had the same question as sbstn:
Does that language in the email:

Founder Exlcusive Upgrades
** New Wonder Model*
** New Standard Max Model*
** Upcoming Starlight Model*

equate to ā€œPro Models that are available within all applicationsā€?

There are new non-Pro models included in Topaz:

  • Wonder in TP and TG (normally reserved for Pro only)
  • Standard Maz in TP and TG
  • Starlight Sharp in TV (normally reserved for Pro only)
  • Nyx XL in TV

Promised soon:

  • Face Realism
  • Subject Preservation
  • Mosaic

And, I am still processing the meaning of that.

I think it means what is Pro at the time of launch will also be available to Founders. And there is a possibility of expanding that offering of Pro feature to Founders in the future. But no guarantee.

It could mean what is new to Pro will also be made available to Founders. But with no reference to other features (CLI access, etc.) or Models not new to Pro, that may remain Pro only indefinitely. I don’t have Pro, so I can’t compare standard Topaz to the Pro version.

Something hasn’t been too smooth regarding this change/rollout. I have been a Topaz customer since way back in the legacy era (Topaz Photoshop Bundle in 2011), and have purchased and renewed all Topaz-products after that, and do now have active running subscriptions for Photo AI, Gigapixel AI and Video AI.

The new Topaz Studio should have been released on Sept. 16, but I can’t find the download for it anyplace in my account. The only new subscription apps that is available in my account as of current is for Gigapixel AI, Photo AI and Video AI, and the only way to download the new Gigapixel, Photo and Video apps are when I open the ā€œoldā€ AI version - where it prompts me to download the latest app. But no access or download for Studio or any of the other apps..!!

I got the ā€œWe’re launching Topaz Studio on September 16, and as a founding customer, you’ll be one of the first to experience it. Here are all the features you can expect with the upcoming changes.ā€-email on Sept. 10.

And I got two emails today ā€œThis subscription has been automatically cancelled due to a new subscription for the same product.ā€, one for Photo AI and one for Gigapixel AI.
Under ā€œSubscriptionsā€ in my account, I do find ā€œTopaz Studio - Annualā€ listed and ā€œActiveā€, but any available download for either a ā€œStudioā€ or any of the other apps are nowhere to be found.

It would certainly be nice to have access to all the apps I subscribe to.. :woozy_face:

It’s totally amazing that you didn’t receive the initial email informing you of your status as a founding customer, given your lengthy purchase history! Although my purchases are considerably fewer than yours, I received an email on September 4th indicating that my account would be upgraded on September 16th. Sounds pretty cut-and-dried, doesn’t it?

Well, it HASN’T been smooth and I’m willing to cut Topaz Labs some slack because it’s apparently a very massive rollout to customers all over the world. But…

At least in my case, there has been no follow-up, no hint at what my current account status is 4 days after the initial rollout began. Have the provided any information to determine on your own what the status is? Not to my knowledge.

I have been able to download, install and activate Topaz Photo, Topaz Gigapixel and Topaz Photo - the new versions of the apps for which I had active licenses, and those that were to supposedly grant me golden-boy ā€˜founding customer’ status.

That’s nice. I’ve even run a couple of short tests with Topaz Video, producing files from both Starlight (mini) and Starlight Sharp. Great. I’m thrilled that the software worked on these short tests.

Does this mean that my account has transitioned? I can’t find evidence of that anywhere in my dashboard or other settings. It appears that I’m currently only ā€˜identifying as’ a Studio Subscriber if I don’t have access to the other promised Studio components, and features. I show the same remaining 8 cloud credits I’ve had for the past 3 months. No sign of the 300 that we’ve been told we’d be granted on a monthly basis.

C’mon Topaz Labs. Is there anyone there who can write a coherent document that details what we should expect to see happening to our accounts during this convoluted process? It’s ok if you don’t want to update us individual in reasonably real-time, but at least give us hint at what to look for on our account pages!

Hi Michael.

Basically, yes, the information coming from Dakota, is a little confusing and contradicting to say the least but, as, I understand the information you are correct current, Pro features aren’t available to Founders like CLI.

Pro Models will be and a possibility that Pro Models in the future will be made a available for Founders if you have the three applications Subscription as and when they are introduced and as you say Dakota, stated they may extend the offer to all Founders

May meaning not guarantee, which seems confusing and contradict previous information.

Having said that, this is only my opinion so, not gospel, I also believe, similarly to Car Manufacturers higher spec model cars, features in time gradually appear in the lower end models.

In addition, I again could be wrong but I think I read somewhere possibly from Dakota, that at the moment the Pro Subscription is available to Founders at the same price.

So in summary, current features like CLI access etc. definitely not, future features possibly.

Purley speculative conjecture on my part sorry.

I am going with the theory if you don’t know, it may very well still be up in the air. That is also the impression I got from Topaz posts. There aren’t too many unknowns - not just for us, but leadership, too. The Founders’ Deal is as locked down and well explained as one could expect. And the new EULA help clarify some fine points in legalese.

This is a momentous change – ultimately an unavoidable – but still a big deal. At this point I am comfortable just waiting for the dust to settle.

Also, I will just wait for the email saying, ā€œYou’re in. You’ve got web apps and 300 creditsā€.

They say ā€œA watched kettle never boilsā€ā€¦it does boil, but it does seem to take longer.

The waiting is just agonising still Pending

As some of you probably already know from my previous posts I have 2 subscriptions - PAI until mid November and GAI until mid February - that I have no intentions of renewing (e.g pay for Studio).
Both those have the renewal canceled, my payment method removed.

My account pages say the subscription is still active (kind of makes sense since the year isn’t up on any of them yet) and that new account overview says ā€œPending Studio Transitionā€.

Now - conflicting posts say I need (or not) an active subscription with renewal on to get the transition (that wasn’t the wording in the first email I recived, pero bueno…).

Anyway - just for the fun of it - I followed the download links and installed all three of the new desktop apps, each to different model directories not really expecting much seeming as I’m kind of in a ā€œrebel modeā€ with regards to subscriptions.

Surprisingly activating both Photo and Gigapixel went through without a hick-up. Video however (never owned that one) didn’t want to go through though. So I guess I’m not Studio… Yet… (or will never be?)

Edit: Good thing you can install models and :laughing: stuff on other drives. 89GB for Gigapixel & Photo.

Hi.

You don’t need an Auto-Renewal Subscription to try the new versions just a current active account in your case cancellation pending although still active.

Basically, you still get to try them, until your Licence Expires and as for Topaz Video you might still get to try that as well I don’t know

Everyone should know about it. It is more informative and relevant to this transition than say my normal ā€œAccount settingā€ page.

Been there, get that. Continuously reading through the Studio Release thread and been following this one as well. :wink:

But there’s been several mentions in this and other threads saying ā€œkeep/turnā€ your auto renewal on…

So I was kind of surprised it did work - at least partly,hence my post above.

To help balance the time without full Founder’s benefits, would extending subscriptions be a fair solution? Or would adding ā€œbonus creditsā€ work better for both sides?

We know transitions like this take time, but meanwhile the clock has been ticking on paid subscriptions without the full value delivered. Many of us renewed by Sept 16 in good faith, only to face delays.

The delay is a fact. What matters now is how to make it feel fair to both customers and Topaz Labs.

Yes that’s true keep your Auto-Renewal Subscription active and you’re guarantee Founders Status.

However, in your case and others in a similar situation who are intending to leave once their current Licence has Expired.

Put it this way It’s clear Topaz are no longer supporting Topaz Photo AI, Gigapixel or Video AI except for minor updates and patches so, to compensate people like yourself Topaz are allowing you to use the new applications Topaz Photo, Topaz Gigapixel and Topaz Video until your current Licence Expires.

Basically, take it for a test drive and see if you like it

I know some people like yourself are disappointed and annoyed with Topaz for going down the Subscription path and are thinking about leaving and if some do I commend, respect and appreciate them for sticking by their principles it’s not for everyone I get it.

I wish them and you well in their future endeavours.

However, I honestly don’t believe a lot of those people other than yourself will leave because, they had time to think about it and have seen this incredible deal for what they’ll getting.

For TopazLabs;
Why send us to the old account page when we are logging in via topazlabs.com..? And why keep the new account page a secret..? You are probably swamped with the new rollout, but shouldn’t this kind of things be among the most obvious to have in place and informed to you customers beforehand? Love your products, and hope tings will smooth out better in the future.

EDIT:
ā€œTopaz Studioā€ with buttons for ā€œManageā€ and ā€œDownloadā€ is on top in my new account page. The ā€œDownloadā€ button only leads to a page where there is no download for ā€œTopaz Studioā€. Is ā€œTopaz Studioā€ a downloadable app…or not…? Also something essential that is not well communicated from Topaz.
