Topaz Photo AI v3.2.1

Hello!

Today we have a patch release with major improvements for Nikon and Sony RAW files, removing an old model, and numerous bug fixes for the UI.

You can find the installer links and full changelog below.

Improved Color Accuracy for Nikon and Sony RAW files

Following updates to Canon color accuracy, we are excited to expand improvements to more camera manufacturers!

When a Nikon or Sony RAW is imported, Photo AI reads the metadata for camera manufacturer, camera model, and camera profile. The header now includes the camera profile detected and applied to the RAW file.

Nikon before (top) and after (bottom)

Sony before (top) and after (bottom)

We recommend comparing the Nikon and Sony RAW colors in Photo AI to how they look in Lightroom Classic, Capture One, or your preferred photo editing application.

I only see the camera profile from a Nikon D500 when PAI is used as a standalone. If I import via “plugin extras” from LrC, I don’t see it.

Now we have a problem…

Everyone should know to READ THE EULA carefully and decide whether or not you want this or future updates that incorporate this EULA. I am not a lawyer, and cannot provide legal advice, but there are things in here that I would not agree to – particularly Topaz publicity rights, auto-renewal on a negative option, and a one-sided release of obligation for Force Majure. These are big red flags for me.

Topaz has always seemed reasonable and fair-minded in its contracts – now they must have a new lawyer… :frowning:

UPDATE: If you read on, you will see that Topaz made minor updates, but it is still anything to which I would ever agree.

Does this now work with the Canon R5 Mark ii. A big miss that one for your product not to be ready when a major new camera lands.

Gigapixel AI has a new Next Generation Face Recovery and awhile back also got a Recovery uprez model. Will these be put in Photo AI too? When? Thank you.

This is a Problem!

Your Changelog should mention that there is a change to the End User Licence Agreement.
The new EULA mentions in sections 11.1 and 11.2 Titled “TERM and TERMINATION”

“if You have payment information on file, the EULA will be automatically renew for successive twelve (12) month terms”

Termination.
"You may also terminate this EULA by ceasing to use and destroying all copies of the Software.

Upon termination, the license granted hereunder will automatically terminate, You may no longer exercise any of the rights granted to You by the license, and You must destroy all copies of the Software in Your possession"

This is very concerning and I cannot agree to these terms in this new EULA.

I suggest users should read this EULA and decide if they wish to proceed with these terms and conditions.

I installed 3.2.1 and did not read the EULA. I am in 3.2.1 standalone now and I cannot find it. What you wrote above is very concerning. Where can I find the EULA? I do NOT want to automatically get a Topaz credit card charge for a renewal at the end of my term. I choose when and if to do that. Is there a way to opt out of this new automatic credit card charge?

I totally agree with you, we should choose when an if.
The terms are located in the “Software Licence Agreement” during installation.
I couldn’t see and opt out during installation. I never installed it as I didn’t agree to these terms.
The terms appear to make this a yearly subscription model.
If you don’t renew, you cant use the software.

If that is the case then Topaz has extremely quietly and covertly changed to the Adobe model where you have to keep paying forever in order to use the software rather than their previous widely publicized and lauded model where you pay for a year of free updates, but after the year you can continue to still use the software. If they have changed to the Adobe rental model then that also needs to be widely publicized.

I hope Topaz will clarify this and if they have changed to the Adobe model then they need to clearly, publicly, and explicitly state it rather than merely and quietly putting a change deep inside the EULA. @Lingyu , dakota.wixom

I just updated to 3.2.1 and now I cannot load photos from LRC into Topaz with Plug-in-Extras.

BEFORE the update I loaded photos without issue.

Thanks for the heads-up. I had installed 3.2.1, but have now reverted to 3.2.0 until there is clarification. I am unlikely to renew anyway when my licence expires at the end of this year.

How can we get the zoom to fit as our default view. I do not want the default to be 100%.

I agree, I will not be forced into a subscription. I will not download updates from 3.2 forward and will not renew at the end of this next month when I am due for renewal.

There no indication that if one decides not renew ones subscription PAI can’t continue to be used, is there?

Seems very “underhanded” the way they did this. one of their “claims to fame” was that you owned the program for the last year you subscribed. this is a major change and unacceptable if it is truly the case. they have done a major disservice to thier customers and themselves.

if this truly is the case it’s a major change and BS given their previous claims to the customer owning the program. I will wait to see what they say but if this is truly the case I, and im pretty sure others, will be looking for alternatives.

Could you send me the file so I can test it? You can securely submit your image(s) to my Dropbox using the link below. Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

Not yet, this will be coming soon and we know it’s important.

Gen 2 face recovery will be coming to Photo AI in the near future. Photo AI is planned to receive a different model instead of Recovery.

I hope they clarify ASAP. I’ve been happy to pay for a year’s worth of updates a couple times now, but the idea that they can auto-renew me and if decline I can no longer use what I’ve already bought sucks.
