Topaz Photo AI v3.0.0

Having the same issue, saving as TIFF not DNG! I wish I knew how to get rid of this last update!

Prior releases are all available here, click on “Releases”.

Nikon Z8 raw files opening with completely different colours in image.

How the original raw image looks like on Fast Raw Viewer

Topaz Photo Ai V3.0 is currently unusable for me.
Thanks

It’s not just about GUI changes. Core improvements are that you can stack filters, change their order and edit them. You can now save your own presets and face recovery and preserve text can be applied multiple time to different parts of the image. Great stuff, if you ask me, and I trust they will make it all even better.

2008 Processing - careful edited in Photoshop (learned via internet - forums - Videos)

Did Start Photographing in 2007 - image was made in 2008 - Taken with a EOS 1D MK III, 180 mm Macro L Lens, f/13 - Camera was used via Full Manual ← you know you need full control over your camera.

Pro Photo RGB ← The Internet told me you need very big Color spaces to fit the whole Quality in, you are not a Professional if you dont use PRO Photo !!!1 ← The Professionals use PRO Photo!!11

Masking ← The internet told me so, you need to edit everything seperate - there is no tool to do everything at once.

There was a Mask for detail, contrast, color and overall tuning (3 Masks) - i think i did spend a hour to edit this image. ← draw masks via pencil - selection etc.

2024 Processing (self developed (from 2017 - to 2024) - no Internet influence) - 1DX III - 300 mm lens f/8 - ISO 160 - Camera was used in Auto ISO, AV Mode.

DxO Deep Prime XD denoising → then → Capture One Pro (Single style, with three layers integrated, one Luma mask for Highlight recovery (Style/preset integrated), nothing else was used and the image is not finished.

sRGB color space. ← work with the target color space.

Time Spend to get there = 3 Minutes (does include starting and using the software).
Would now upscale, denoise and sharpen via TPAI - and refine the colors with Photoshop (Global editing style, without masks)

I appreciate your perspective. We may have to “agree to disagree” on the definition of core improvements, as the improvements you listed should be tied to the UX, not the core program capability (in my opinion).

Here’s hoping that the improvements you listed didn’t spawn the obvious memory leak(s) that has persisted since 2.3.2.

Wonderful picture.

Well, you may worry but I don’t as Topaz knows that to be successful in this very competitive market it has to produce a truly excellent app. AI is so much under development that coming improvements to both the models/filters and how they can be applied by the user are inevitable.

You all … you should have done your color correction, lens profile, remove CA/PF, corrected temperature, etc etc. in your favorite photo editor, save as 16 bit TIFF and hand it on a silver platter to PAI to only do denoise, sharpen, preserve text. (some will not be happy about this post)

Hi Dakota, I DM-ed you the original image over the weekend.
I hope the fixes for both Z8 NEF files camera matrix and the blotchy denoising are assigned high priority. I can’t use TPAI as-is… Please let me know if you need any additional info. Thanks.

Thanks a lot.

I’m stunned by Nature and thankful that by now i’m able to capture it like it is.

I had to re-install 2.4.2 twice for the LRc plug-in to work.

What is the reason behind preset? Every photo is different and should not be preset. Preset takes away AI too.

Same here getting TIFF files although the DNG option is chosen unde Preferences. Please Topaz, fix this bug quickly.

For me one time was enough to use the LRc plugin

This morning, I ran a test in Photo AI doing Face Recovery and Upscale, this was applied to 100 images. At the start Photo AI was using 4.88GB of RAM, by the end this grew to 14.0GB. I installed a tool to record the memory use at 10 second intervals. Later today or tomorrow, I’ll run additional tests with a larger number of images and post my results.

This memory leak has been much discussed already; Topaz knows about it and will (eventually) fix it

I used to do what you describe, using ON1 Photo Raw, and it worked well. It is still the best way to do .jpg images.

However, for most raw images, it seems better to use TPAI first and then send a sharp, non-noisy image to ON1. AI functions (especially noise reduction), whether Topaz or others, relies on details of the capture that may be missing after anything else has altered it. Note, there are exceptions. If the original is too dark, or too hazy for needed detail to be seen it may be better to work on it first and then send to to Topaz. Either way, nothing beats Topaz for helping with noise and sharpness.

There appears to be an issue with RAW denoise, which cannot be disabled for RAW photos. I’ve noted that my Canon DNGs are denoised very well. However, processing Apple’s ProRAW DNG is a different story – the result is horrible. It seems that v3.0 messes with Apple’s embedded processing resulting in severe edge noise that was not apparent before processing (see photo). L = Apple ProRAW / R = TPAI 3.0 RAW Denoise. The results are unusable, thus I cannot utilize Topaz Photo AI for its execellent sharpening.
