Hello!
We’re excited to put out a beta that is purely a performance boost for our Gigapixel users.
What this beta intends to do is overhaul how images are displayed, including monochrome detection, alpha detection, and color conversion during image load and preview. To test this specific beta, you must have an active Topaz Gigapixel subscription.
*Please note that the GPU renders ON by default. You can change this setting in the Preferences by switching the toggle off.
Some performance gains (measured locally on a 32000×27676 image using an M4 Mac; your results will vary by hardware and image):
- Preview load: 22s → 244ms (~90x faster)
- Does not include time to read the image initially.
- Memory usage: ~40GB → 8GB
- Monochrome detection: ~250x faster (3s → ~12ms)
- Alpha detection: ~3800x faster (1.25s → ~325μs)
- Monochrome/alpha checks no longer duplicate the image in memory
- Monitor color conversions now run on the GPU
- Color conversion accuracy should improve on average (CMYK JPEGs should be more accurate, may also reduce minor RAW color shift)
Please considering the following in your benchmarks and share any specifics on the thread:
- What are your system specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS), and what image did you test (dimensions, format, bit depth)?
- What preview load time and memory usage did you see before vs. after the update, on the same image?
- Did the output color/quality look right, and did you notice any shifts (especially with CMYK JPEGs and RAW files) or issues with monochrome output?
- Did you run into any crashes, freezes, or visual glitches while loading, previewing, or exporting? (Please include any crash logs)
- Has the speed change affected how you work — for example, are you now previewing larger images you’d have avoided before?
We appreciate any testing you do and if you come across any issues or errors, post them here in the thread.
Thank you so much!
Esther H.
