Topaqz Video 1.2 - WOW

Hi, as an ex-BBC nut and a very fussy user of Topaz over the years, it is a delight to be wading through the freatures of the latest release Version 1.2.0.

I have some rather important HD 60P video footage which was shot on a fixed wide lens GoPro equivalent some years ago, at a very worthy event organised by Joss Ackland (RIP).

Most of the footage was shot on wide angle other cameras in pairs for a totally 3D presentation. Synchronised rudimentarily by the use of wired start / stop operations on all cameras. HOWEVER, there are inevitable sync anomalies.

Back to the subject - I was trying to accuratley sync visually by zooming in to the video streams, and thought I’d try to upscale them first using RHEA. Having run through, I zoomed into one stream to see if I could check timings of lip movement, or any other obvious activity to use as a proof of correct sync. I was simply blown away with the actual result quality of the up converted video from the RHEA setting. I have a facial image zoomed in, on the UHD upscale, side by side with the original HD version - from a 3MOS sensor - so really good in the first place. The UHD version (remember, I am an ex-BBC cameraman) is just incredibly clean. Colour ‘bleed’ on the HD outlines in the original has VANISHED! Detail from a slightlly fuzzy blocky face - has re-appeared smoothly. This makes me think seriously about a conversation with you guys about several video relavent features that ‘could’ be added to make this a top line ‘stand alone’ tool for broadcasters as a suite of final finishing tools. WHO should I talk to? CONGRATULATIONS - for an amazing advance in the toolset!

Did you ever try Davincy Resolve, it has an Audio sync function.

If you have an video with audio and a seperate audio file (from a different microphone), you can sync that second audio file to the video audio file.

I don’t know but maybe it does sync videos based on the Audio too (when linked).

Hi Thomas, – yes I have used many audio and video sync features, however, the one that I prefer is the one that I have installed on an earlier Vegas Pro version.

The problem is that the sync can be established in the NLE – but then Topaz Video does not let you use 3D side by side fullframe to work with.

SO – I do my processing in a weird order if I want to get source footage for 3D in this upscale with RHEA preset.
There is SO much that could be done as possibly quite easy, bearing in mind the stunningly good toolsets now within Topaz Video.
I do loads of movie/video restoration and come up against a mass of issues to resolve – things like combinations of film and NTSC video being used for archives,
with no easy way to remove the ‘drop frame’ video bodge in order to sync with film.

Thanks for your suggestion Smile

V Best
