This takes me back. I was apprenticed as a hot-metal compositor before moving to computer typesetting in the 70s. I recognise all the equipment and I can smell the ink. Only difference is we had to stand, we were not allowed to sit.

Thanks Raymond. I ran a Linotype/Intertype for many years. I took a 2 year printing course at a college and at the time (1960) the most demand and $ was for a Linotype operator that is what I did for years. After the phase out I also got into computerized typesetting starting on a Compugraphic. I also might add that running/MAINTAINING a Linotype was NOT a stress free job as you well know.
