Starlight

Hello everyone,

I’m having a problem with Starlight Mini in Topaz Video AI 1.7.1 and would appreciate any help.

My system specifications:

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (24 GB VRAM)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X

  • RAM: 32 GB

  • Software: Topaz Video AI 1.7.1

  • GPU driver: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition

The problem:

Whenever I try to process a video using Starlight Mini, the process gets stuck at the “Processed” stage and does not seem to make any further progress. I even tested it with a video clip that was only 10 seconds long, but the same issue occurred.

Eventually, Topaz Video AI displays a generic “Error” message without providing any additional details.

I also noticed that Topaz Video AI does not appear in the application list in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, even after using the scan feature. I’m not sure if this is related to the Starlight Mini issue.

My questions:

  1. Is Starlight Mini fully supported on the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX?

  2. Could this be a compatibility issue with AMD GPUs, or could it be related to Neuroserver or model initialization?

  3. Is there a known workaround for this issue in Topaz Video AI 1.7.1?

  4. Is it normal for Topaz Video AI not to appear in the AMD Software application list?

Has anyone with an AMD GPU experienced the same problem or managed to get Starlight Mini working?

Any suggestions or troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

When my NVIDIA 5070 Ti machine was down, I tried running Topaz Video on my similarly-equipped backup computer with a Radeo 7900-XT. Yeah, 4GB less VRAM than yours, but otherwise similar.

Performance was absolutely abysmal with respect to render times - approximately an order of magnitude longer than the NVIDIA. And the output files had areas where the video was blank (white).

I was told that the the support team doesn’t have much of a collection of AMD cards to troubleshoot with.

My personal opinion is it’s unlikely that these Radeon cards will ever approach the performance of NIVIDIA’s until they make architecture changes that allow for stronger AI performance ala NVIDIA’s Tensor cores.

To look into the situation for you, can you grab the logs and send to the support team at help@topazlabs.com?

To gather logs, please select Help > Logging > Get Logs for Support and attach the zip file to your reply.

Here is a video to help with the steps of how to collect the logs.

The GPU card RX 7900 XTX with 24 GB of VRAM does meet the System Requirements for Topaz Video and for the Starlight Mini model. There have been some issues though with AMD GPU’s that the team is working on.
