I have questions about Starlight Mini between the Topaz Studio version and Topaz Studio Pro:
Is Starlight Mini not available locally in Topaz Studio?
From June until now, have there been any improvements in the speed performance of Starlight Mini? Because what I know about it is that it’s extremely slow.
In the Topaz Studio Pro version, can we use more than one GPU with Starlight Mini, and does it actually give double the speed?
I think I read that there are special models exclusive to the Topaz Studio Pro version. (Pro-Only Models (Coming Soon)) Can we know what they are?
Starlight Mini is only available locally in Topaz Studio if you’re a founding member (meaning you were converted to Studio while you had an active license before Studio was officially launched). I’m able to access Starlight Mini in regular Studio since I’m one of those members.
As for speed, I recently built a high end rig with a 9950X3D + RTX 5090 and I get around 1.6FPS in Starlight for anything 720p. For 1080p, that number is closer to 0.7-1FPS. While I wouldn’t consider this fast by any means, it isn’t dreadfully slow either for the high quality output that you get.
1- I had doubts about whether the company was offering now also the regular Starlight. When they used to mention it, I did not expect that they meant Starlight Mini, since it was already available beforehand.
Starlight Mini is available for local rendering in Topaz Studio with a Pro license or founding customer status.
There have been engine refinements and if you have an Nvidia GPU, the latest driver update included some optimizations for Topaz Video.
Starlight Mini does not support multi-GPU, even with a Pro license. Starlight Sharp does support multi-gpu.
Starlight Mini and Starlight Sharp are models exclusive to local rendering with the Pro license. For the personal license, these 2 models are cloud only.
Please remember that according to the software licence agreement, Topaz can remove any feature without notice. That’s particularly important to note for Pro users who need to subscribe a year at a time.
An example is the recent removal of the CLI tools.
So, don’t be surprised if local rendering suddenly disappears for any model.
