Starlight 2 Announcement

Just saw the YT Starlight 2 announcement, It looks very impressive in so many ways!! Good Job Topaz Labs, that its a huge leap forward with the Model and tech you all are doing!!

My question, Will this only be accesses for us to use on the Astra.app site or will there be integration for a quick upload to use Starlight 2 through Topaz Video desktop app?

I certainly hope SL2 will be included in the next Topaz Video desktop release…

Where is the Starlight 2 announcement? I have not seen it.

Starlight Precise wasn’t even available in the app; it was only available in the cloud. So, they’re developing solely for the cloud. That’s why there haven’t been any new releases for so long; they’re developing cloud-only applications. At this rate, there won’t be any new releases. New versions for other models aren’t coming yet.

I wouldn’t bet on it.

@Ange.topazlabs

I wonder wich size of Vram is needed to run this model.

When TL does benchmark i always see the L40, wich is 48 GB.

Thanks. That explains why I have not seen it. I don’t use the cloud apps. I hope these improvements make it to the local app. Otherwise what is the point in a subscription?

It’s not for PC anyway, it’s for cloud servers.

Yeah… I know the CEO worded it flowery when the very first model came out in the cloud. The reasoning being that limiting to local hardware was holding models back. But he assured us that they would be working hard to convert the models to able to run on local hardware. They might have stepped across a gap that cannot be crossed back. They could have had all the good intentions in the world, but they might not have been based on reality.
It would take more guts than I think they have to publicly admit they were wrong about it ever being possible to make this style of new models run on user hardware.

And that’s me trying to paint this in the best light possible.

How most desktop app users feel about Topaz these days:

Oh, come on, we already have a RTX5090 0.5 fps model, it can’t get any worse that, can it… or can it?

I tried it out with the same source material that Starlight Precise Quality 1 had issues with, and unfortunately, it still produces video that is not usable for me, unfortunately.

  • The sparkly, particle effects are reduced, but not eliminated.
  • There are new artifacts. On a dark background with background noise or artifacts that are not very noticeable, it now generates dark grey, slightly out of focus horizontal lines going across the entire screen.
  • It still eliminates too much, getting rid of video motion or elements that it should not be getting rid of.

I should probably post a Google Drive or other link to the material I’m working with, along with Starlight Precise Quality 1 and Starlight Precise Quality 2 versions. That will take me some time, so I can try to do that later, if the devs find it useful.

I also don’t think that it’s good that they removed Starlight Precise Quality 1. Some people might prefer it in cases where Starlight Precise Quality 2 might be too soft.

Here’s a preliminary segment:

On file 03, pay attention to the pulsating skin on the baby’s head (fontanelles) at 26 seconds in. For the Starlight Precise Quality 2 upscale (file 04), it is completely eliminated!

How do you access the model? Is it on their website

Me, with an RTX 5090, wishing I got anything higher than 0.1 fps, ever.

Thank you so much. How do I find it in astra? Is it called starlight precise 2 or it called something else?

I’m also wondering where this option to use Starlight precise 2 is located at? I just went to astra.app and loaded a video. I see a new drop down menu with models that are on topaz Video desktop app. But not nothing that says here’s our new model, “Starlight Precise Quality 2” I just see basic Starlight Quality in the menu…
