I regret paying the full price for a perpetual license for Topaz Photo AI and Topaz Video AI. I purchased both the licenses 2 months ago only to now be shocked with the news that we will no longer receive feature updates and have to subscribe to the new programs if we want the latest and greatest.
I contacted support for an exception to issue me a refund but they said they cannot do that and I can continue to use the old products just fine.
It’s like I am using a demo! Ads everywhere to upgrade to the new version. That ugrade available is not an update, it just installs the new subscription Topaz Video.
What horrible customer service!
I am never gonna touch anything with the name Topaz Labs on it!
This is what we get as honest paying customers, no wonder people use pirated software!
If you click the X on that pop-up you can use the app just like before or you can swap to the new Topaz Video app and use that for your workflow.
Your current licenses for the older Photo AI and Video AI apps is perpetual and you will retain access to those for as longas you are on a compatible computer. The coverage that you have from those purchases will give you access to the new versions of the apps until that coverage ends, if you want to continue using the new apps you can sign up for a subscription.
What do you mean the coverage that I have from those apps will give me access to the new version until it expires? I have a perpetual license for each, so how long can I use the new apps until I am required to subscribe?
The existing upgrade coverage plan time that you have on your apps is converted to subscription time with the new apps. When that plan or plans are slated to expire your access to the new apps will end and you can continue to use the older ones that are covered by your perpetual license. If you have auto-renewal turned on for your upgrade plans to the older apps, then the price is locked in at those rates and you will continue to have access.
The new app is called Topaz Video that we are moving to from the older app Topaz Video AI. The installer link in version 7.1.4 and 7.1.5 is to help users transition to the new app if they want to move to it. There is not are requirement to use any of the newer versions of the app if you do not want to do so and you can continue to use the older version that has the Multi-GPU workflow if you desire. The devs and company have made decisions on the direction of the app with each update based on user feedback, and where they are wanting to go. The support team and myself pass along all feedback to them for that purpose.
I’ve uninstalled any/all versions of Topaz Video AI (older or new) as they will generate Errors on any model selection except Proteus. I also notice that your uninstaller doesn’t actually remove ALL the files even when I answer Yes to the prompt to remove all models. This is unacceptable and not professional and certainly doesn’t implement Microsoft’s best practices for software installation.
I attempted to use Starlight for a “Free Trial” and it only worked for 5 seconds before generating an error, again only partial video output. The 5 seconds it did generate looks no better than any other model that does NOT cost “credits” to run.
I have informed my credit card company to block any attempts at renewal from Topaz Labs Inc as it seems renewal is still active and was not removed as indicated by another Topaz rep. Unfortunately, the actual charging company you folks use seems to be obfuscated so I will have to be vigilant to ensure I don’t get charged or if I do still get charge, will dispute with my credit card company.
