So, has anything changed from v5.3.5?

I stopped upgrading at 5.3.5 as that did all I needed and the updates after that appeared to be UI based that made a mess of things or their cloud software which was laughably expensive. So my question is, is there anything better now than the version I have which does a great job and is reasonably fast 10fps (RTX3080Ti), bearing in mind I will be upgrading to a 5080 soon?

I did have a look through the forum but couldn’t really find an answer and I’m more interested in what you guys have to say than what Gemini tells me.

Cheers

There have been a lot of changes since 5.3.5 of Video AI, up to the latest app release, Topaz Video 1.6.1.

Notable updates:

New models: Rhea XL, Hyperion and Hyperion 2, Gaia 2, Starlight models, Proteus Natural, Nyx-High Fidelity.

MPV-based media player, frame preview beta function, and new Premiere Panel workflow.

There are several other features and aspects still in the works for future release.

IMO it’s just the Starlight models - but those really are a game changer. Starlight precise even more so than starlight mini.

Does this Starlight run slower than what I am using now?

Yes, by a magnitude.

That’s a non-starter for me then, thanks for spending some time answering my questions.

Proteus Natural is a great alternative to Proteus, which I abandoned very quickly.

I’m still using 5.3.6. Every time there is a new version, I try it out. I much prefer the interface of 5.3.6 to the newer versions. My computer cannot run Starlight models. I have found the other new models to be inferior to the old models for my purposes. Sometimes, I work with footage that is really noisy or degraded, and the old 5.3.6 models do not improve it to my satisfaction, so I launch the new version, and try the new models, and the results are even worse, so I go back to 5.3.6. I work exclusively with analog NTSC tape captures, though, the new models might have some use with upscaling or improving digital HD sources, I can’t comment on that.

That’s basically what I do too, cine film, vhs, 8mm, Hi 8 etc, even with my system it still takes 3 times the length of the film to finish and the result is very good indeed, so to get a marginal improvement that takes 10 times longer is a non starter.
