I decided to work on a black and white version and here’s the result…

I figured I could best draw attention to the eye by centering in a square frame. Got lucky with just a little motion blur on the paws.

For the b&w version I used LR, Topaz photoFXlab, and a couple of rounds of Nik Silver Efex Pro.
