Side-by-Side Deinterlacing Results: Topaz vs Hybrid

So I have heard tons of stuff all saying to use Hybrid or other programs or deivces to deinterlace your laserdisc 480i capture .

what I no one will post is a simple screenshot of lets say a bad qaulity tv show married with children or Three’s comapny from dvd or anything low res . Do a screenshot using DioneTV (or whatever is the best deinterlacer in TVAI vs Hybrid with all the best settings as they recommend . no upscaling , just a straight screenshot of orginal , Topaz and Hybrid and anything else that does not take a rocket scinece degree to use . Easy request that would help tons of folks figure out if doing stuff outside of Topaz is worth it for them . This is all for the very best results to watch for personal enjoyment for years to come on Oled tvs ,Could careless about size of files or putting it on Youtube/Vimeo or whatever . I guess just call for archival purpose . I’m strickly looking to do only lds, vhs and low qaulity single layer dvds that have never been available on blu-ray and never will at this point . High quality dual layer dvds from the big studios look just fine on a Oppo 103Darbee blu-ray player with its really good upscaler . I just need a starting point , I don’t want to be doing something the worng way when I have so many other things to learn like color correction and remastering the audio of my concerts and a few movies .

I’m alos having a very hard time finding what the best device for my use would be to capture since I only have 6 laserdiscs in my collection but there priceless ! Most otther stuff will be vhs & dvd . Domesday duplicator (very expensive) need to open the player and good luck not frying something , CX PCEI card , needs a mod card is dirt cheap , mod no idea how to and no one wants to tell you how and what to buy . Dv camcorder with firewire and s-video/composite connectors claim to be about better then any dvd recorder and other gadgets . Yet I have seen no one use laserdisc as samples , Home movies on DV and a laserdisc do not compare .

YouTube how to videos have for the most part been useless and they ramble on and on and use footage that has nothing to do with what I’m looking to do.

Welcome to the world of old digital videos.

If it helps you decide what to explore, TVAI does not do any deinterlacing with AI. They use the bwdif filter from ffmpeg before running any AI model.

I have spent a lot of time trying to decide what deinterlacer is best. I might have posted my findings on here somewhere, but I don’t remember. The main contenders are KNLMeans, bwdif and yadif.

There might be settings to make it not do it, but KNLMeans tends to make random objects wobble in panning scenes. Yadif tends to produce stair-steps in slanted edges. Bwdif is kind of the middle of those two. It doesn’t make objects wobble and it makes those stair-stepped edges more solid. I’m not saying it’s the best for every video, but it is the one I ended up using the most.

Different videos require different applications and settings. I’ve tried many applications and settings for my videos, and I got the best results with Topaz. I use the settings below, and I get the best results. You can try it too if you want. The video output should remain original.
