The base image for this impressionistic work was taken in 2006 at the Tumwater Falls Hatchery in Olympia Washington. There was a strong salmon return swimming up the Deschutes River to the hatchery. I was able to stand on the bridge and shoot directly down into the river below me. One can not fully appreciate how strong these fish are until you see them swimming up a surging river, climbing up the falls, hell bent on election to get to their spanning grounds.
I recall salmon fishing off the coast of Southern Oregon as a kid with my father. Salmon was plentiful then. Not so much now.
