Greetings,
I had Topaz Labs support do a test on a video that was restored in Topaz.
Please let me know if you think I’ve come pretty close to what Topaz Labs did.
This was a 480i video that was originally an interlaced 8 bit video that was shot on S VHS and digitized with a Canopus AV 110.
Here is the original AVI file
Here is the video after Topaz deinterlace and upscale
This is my Render on Youtube as I will be using it to create “shorts”
Here is the method that Topaz labs used
"“I ran some tests and found that the settings in the screenshots below had the best results. I used Dione TV to handle the deinterlacing and then added a second pass enhancement (to enable go to File > Preferences > Advanced > Features > Show second enhancement feature) with Artemis with an input condition of aliasing or moire.
It’s not perfect, but since the input video quality is rather low quality to begin with, the AI models struggle to have enough pixel data information. These settings kept more of a “true” look as some of the models like Iris, Rhea, and Proteus can introduce some odd looks in the faces when it is trying to interpret them.”
It looks pretty good and it doesn’t have any distorted faced in the background. The only procedure that was able to upscale to FHD without that happening was using this method.
Are there any suggestions you would have for enhancing it and color correcting in Resolve?
I know the lighting in the video is weird so sometimes the subject looks too dark. I can’t seem to lighten it or raise the lift without throwing the whole thing off balance. Also I’d like to get some of the redness out of the skin tones.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
