Prototype GUI 3.0.0.27a

yes, the boost in speed is impressive, good for you ! they’ll certainly fix that at some points for sure  !

There is a typo (avaiable—available)

I have some questions that have probably been answered elsewhere:-

The official release has Model Manager with a list of available Models. I remember someone saying the Alpha doesn’t use some of the latest versions. Is there any way to find out which ones it does use?

Has anyone composed an instruction manual of some kind for Alpha, as some settings are hard to follow, such as Advanced Options?

I’m also not sure about Stabilize, which is automatically on 50% with each new update. If it is for what I’m guessing it’s for, should it be on that setting?

How do I figure out what processor number settings to use in Preferences? I’ve got an Nvidia RTX 3070.

Last year one of the members, viktorz3008, put together a Performance Guide using upscaling methods he had come across. Has anyone compiled a similar method recently?

When I Preview as well as Processing, the panel at the bottom always remains at 1%, even though it is actually doing its job in the background. Therefore I never get any indication as to how long it will take?

And finally, I’ve not been receiving any emails lately about Alpha updates. Is it because I haven’t posted for a while?

As a PS to my last post, I converted something which took 3 times as long as the official version and was almost half the size of the original?

for my part, I find that the veai team is regressing by having wanted to redo from scratch. it was not a good idea. and we almost all agree that they could have continued version 2 until version 2.9.0 for example by adding other functionalities and others. no unfortunately they did not want to continue and suddenly starting from scratch is just a mistake on their part. and frankly it’s sad that they no longer want to continue version 2. I am for the continuation of version 2. let’s make a petition to motivate the veai team to continue the old version and drop this version 3 which is bad. let’s all be against this version 3 and let’s all be to motivate the team to continue the 2

I have to disagree. The current version 3 is in its ALPHA state, nowhere near an official release or replacement for the older version. In the end, it brings users much more freedom with FFmpeg support. Give the team some time, if they can get the preview style back to version 2, and make the processing faster, they got a winner in my book with version 3.

Is FFmpeg the best setting to deinterlace?

Ffmpeg is not a setting.

You’re part of the beta testing team, but your comments show that you don’t understand it, and has nothing to do here.

main VEAI Dev Suraj explained the reason multiple time why the Version 2 must be dropped.
because it forbidd any evolution of the software ! with V2 we’ll never get audio passtrough or re encoding, or have H265 encoding, or any other output codect.
V3.0 is an Ffmpeg Fork with Ai Models in it. it’s offer a crazy amount of possibility, including possible to use VEAI as a plugin in a video editor, strong use and support for batch / Cli command line, etc… much easier to fix, or change stuff.

This version 3 is a NECESSITY, and in the end, when we will be closer to an official release, the software will be better at any level. part of what’s already there in this alpha / prototype Gui is clearly in the right decision. but it’s a protototype and is an Alpha version ! that’s mean it mustn’t and is not suited for doing works with it, final ones. it’s only for testing purpose, and for users who want to try to help during the developpement !

In regards of your comments,

  • you don’t understand what is an alpha release is,
  • that you’re in a section where we’re doing tests to help developpers to fix issues, because there are a lot of stuff to fix during a developpement process.
  • we have the chance to test an early prototype, usually , prototype are not offered at “testing” to normal users / customers.

in case you didn’t understand : the version 2 of the software is not the future of VEAI. it’s not the right thing to do. if V2 would still be continued to be developped, you’ll continue to comeback to complain about what the V2 can’t fix, like more codec I/O support etc …

V2 is like trying to fix someone with a wood leg by using an injection = Non sense.

Sorry. What I actually meant is where it has Ffmpeg: yadif in Deinterlace. The standard version just uses Dione and I was curious if anybody sees improvements with this setting?

there are several ways to do de interlacing. if my memory is correct, Yadif is not the only setting available in Ffmpeg to do de-interlacing. VEAI use his own de -interlacing Ai Based model. I personnaly use a Avisynth/Vapoursynth de-interlacing plugin, called QTGMC you can try it using gui called StaxRip or “Hybrid”. I tested very few the de interlacing capacity of VEAI, and the yadif one is not good enough for me. but this is pure personnal opinion, only way is to test each of them and do your own opinion. just take the same video clip interlaced, and try them all. until you find the one you like the most. Trial and errors ;).

know I’m not the only member here who likes version 2 and luckily I’m not alone for that. you apparently like version 3, it’s your choice and I respect, I like version 2 for the moment because alpha 3 does not convince me yet. he is very slow. respect my choice. maybe I’ll change my mind when the beta of version 3 soon

I have tried Hybrid with QTGMC and found it to be good (however not that easy to work out the best settings). I find Dion on VEAI easier, and it seems to do a good job as well.
I also like the fact that you can see what it’s doing during conversion.

Is StaxRip easier than Hybrid and do you know of any good instruction manuals/videos online?

i answer you in private we’re out of subject ;).

He did not say that he likes it.
He explained (again) the reasons of why v3 is necessary.
Again, you are free to go back to last stable 2.X version,
because this subforum is to test 3.X Alpha releases.
Regards, mate.

@xuan.liu @gregory.maddra When will it Do HDR ? When you input a Her File it Uses Main instead of main10 or 12.

This software is commercial software and has a limited renewal period of one year.
I think it is legitimate for the purchaser to ask for a review of the development policy, fearing that resources will be allocated to the development of less-desired features and that updates to key features will be delayed until the updates expire.

What I am hoping for is a performance improvement regarding the upconversion feature.
(1) Improved image quality through high bit processing.
(2) Correct color space processing.
(3) Magnification by 3x; no waste when enlarging from 720p to 2160p.
(4) Faster processing of a single file instead of parallel processing of multiple files.
