Problem with camera profiles from Color Fidelity

Hi, I have a question about the Color Fidelity profiles for the OM-1 that I’ve installed.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Everything works as expected when applying any of the profiles to an ORF file, but not if the file is converted to a DNG file by Topaz Photo AI 2.2.2.
2.Like when I first run the ORF file through Topaz Photo AI.
  2. I´ve tried by first taking the file in to the Develop module of Lightroom before sending it to Topaz, and by sending it directly to Topaz from the Library module but same result.

Since I have other third party profiles that works equally well on both ORF files and files converted to DNG files I wonder if there is a workaround or something I can do to make these profiles work on an ORF file that´s been converted to a DNG file by Topas Photo AI?

I´ve contacted Color Fidelity about this and this is the answer i got:
“It looks like Topaz AI is not making DNG files that can use.dcp files. I have just tried DXO and it works fine. All I can suggest is you talk with Topaz support and see what they say, it is not a problem with the profiles.”

My Windows setup is this:

Send it as a TIFF from LR using Edit in with edits applied.

Well, I can do that but it doesn’t solve the problem that Topaz does not accept third party camera profiles of my choice. Since doing it your way means worse results, especially for sharpening, than using Topaz as a plug-in it would be nice, and expected, that you address the the problem at hand instead of proposing a workflow which Topaz doesn´t otherwise recommend.

By the way I got this response from Color Fidelity about the Adobe profiles I can use after running Topaz as a plug-in:
“They are Adobe profiles for generic DNG TIFF files, Topaz is outputting a TIFF in a DNG wrapper unlike DXO that is giving you a proper linear DNG file.”

If this is correct I think it’s a shame that you haven’t been transparent about this, and I do hope you fix this in a future update so that we get “real” DNG files to work with.

I don’t work for Topaz, I was simply giving you a work around. So this is not a error but if you wish to go back to linear DNGs put in a request under Ideas to allow others to vote for this.

Just so that you are aware that a Linear DNG is NOT a RAW file but are based on RAW files that have been partially developed, having undergone some processing to lock in demosaicing. Depending on its intended purpose, a Linear DNG might also complete other parts of the RAW conversion process such as denoising and lens corrections.

They are called Linear DNG because, like RAW data, they are linear and have exactly the same flexibility as RAW files when it comes to editing aspects such as brightness, color, and contrast. BUT they are NOT RAW files.
