Prevent Incompatible Codecs from Being Selected

Hello,

I have a feature request. Strictly speaking it is not a bug, but causes a lot of annoyance and wasted time for me.

I am using Video AI version 6.1.0

Let’s say I am using codec H264 and I am converting a video to 4k. I have no issue with that.

Now I want to convert the same video to 8k and maybe put a couple different options in the queue.

I will get an error that says:

“Error: the output resolution of the video is too large for the H264 encoder. Max size: 4,096x4,096”

because I forgot to change this. I will sometimes do this with multiple things in the queue and come back and realize it all failed and I have to restart with a different codec.

My feature request is, when changing to a new resolution, codecs that are not compatible with this resolution should automatically be deselected/not visibile/not displayed in the dropdown menu. This would just save me a lot of time from my own forgetfulness of changing it. To be clear, my complaint/issue isn’t that I can’t use a given codec. My issue is that I don’t get warned about using it until the I have started the conversion. Then it is too late and I have wasted time.

Additionally, It should not even be possible to start a conversion with a wrong codec.

In summary, please automatically remove the option to select an incompatible codec with the currently selected resolution and/or when you start the conversion, display an error saying you can’t use that codec.

Thank you so much in advance!!!

Yeah but when you select h264 first and after that you choose upscale resolution gives higher than 4096, the program does not know which codec it should take.

I think at the moment when you do a export and your pre-selected codec does not fit, a new window should appear, presenting you codecs that fits, and there you can directly select one of it …also for audio when choosen container format can’t hold the passtrough audio codec.

Sure, that would be a good solution. Right now it just lets you do it and it fails. But I think your solution would be good.
