Plugin Improvement | Suffix Addition

[adding Per user on Facebook community forum, Vladimir Kelman]

There are a couple of convenience features in DxO PureRAW 4 (Topaz competitor), implementing which in Photo AI would remove a lot of tedious time-consuming work (in my opinion (as a Topaz user and as a software developer / UX specialist).

When using as Adobe Lightroom (Classic) plug-in, DxO PureRAW 4 allows to:

  1. Automatically add a suffix to resulting file name(s).
  2. Place resulting file(s) into a subfolder or a different folder.
  3. In Lightroom, place resulting files into a sub-collection.

On the other side, when I use Topaz AI and select to create copies of original files, rather than update originals , it automatically inserts a a suffix “-2” into file names and appends results into the same collection.

“-2” suffix is not what I or most users would want, it should be easy to specify which suffix to use. As a result, I spend time renaming results - unnecessary, tedious and error-prone work.

To clarify: DxO PureRAW allow to choose the suffix it adds to original file and the location of improved copy.
Topaz Photo AI currently does not.

My request is to have preferences in Photo AI where you can add a dynamic suffix to the file name of the output file being generated when you use the LrC plug-in for Topaz Photo AI. The suffix would indicate the processes applied by PAI. As noted, other program do this well and dynamically. Topaz can and should have this option as well.

Please review this discussion including the 1/2025 comments in that post.

Other programs may save a file adding a 2 or letter after the original file name, similar to how Topaz manages this with the Lightroom plug-in. I would like to see the files adjusted by Topaz identified as such. Makes things simpler when going thru files. The format in the Export settings would be great if we could use this with Lightroom.

If you put this in Ideas I would vote for it …

Actually I think the Forum category may be Product Feature Requests

Hi.

Sorry that’s an impossibility at least from Topaz because, if use Topaz Photo AI as a standalone application then yes indeed you can apply both Prefixes and Suffixes to your Export File.

However, using Topaz Photo AI as a Plug-in then, Topaz have no control over the File Name used that’s because, it’s the host application in this case Lightroom that determines the Name applied to the files sent to Photo AI this is true with all Plug-ins and again I doubt the Adobe would be willing to change this as it’s a standardized procedure across all their applications

Hope this helps

When you bring in a stand-alone image file, i.e. Not from Lightroom or Photoshop, when you are done, Photo AI adds a Photo AI suffix to the file name, which makes it easy to tell that the photo was treated in Photo AI. This can be adjusted in the Export Settings area when you hit Save. When you send a file over from LR or PS, it returns the file without the option of adding a suffix ID to the filename. This would be a nice option to always have in Preferences. It would also be nice if the program did not close after saving back to LR but leave that as an option in Preferences.

Hi AzYooper,
you should vote for your own idea!

Will do. First time I had an idea. I missed the vote thingy.

The plugins can’t change the filename. We could possibly integrate this with the LrC File > Plug-in Extras > Process with Topaz Photo AI workflow but not the others.

That’s the one that I use most of the time. Would be nice to see info in file name. Thank you

Hello
It could be interesting to modify the suffix of the file name in settings menu : (ie.) .tif or .tiff, .jpg or .jpeg
When a file is modified directly in Lightroom, it couldn’t be reintregated automatically due to different suffix name.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing. It’s on our to-do list that we will address as soon as we get some of the more urgent bug fixes out of the way.
