Photo AI Pricing

I just received an email advertising an upgrade special for $84. When I first clicked the link it said my price would be $199. (I guess that’s the full price.) I tried again and was told the price was $99 with an $84 renewal. The email suggested the renewal would start at $84. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks for any enlightenment!

My notice said that I would only get the $84 renewal if I set it to auto charging of my credit card every year. If I wait until I see if it’s something that I REALLY NEED, my manual upgrade cost will be $119.

I didn’t click any links because I am not taking any chance on telling them I am authorizing auto yearly upgrades. But their EULA also says now that THEY CAN CHANGE THE TERMS anytime they want without notice to me. So They have put it in writing that they are not exactly trustworthy. I have yet to see anything that will cause me to sign up for anything past the 3.2.0 that I have right now.

Thanks for your input! I’m in the same boat. There was no way I was going to upgrade for $119 or even $99, but when I thought it might be $84, I was considering it. How stupid is that on my part! I think I’ll pass.

I’m disappointed that Topaz has changed so much. Originally, they sold simple but effective plugins at a very affordable price. Upgrades were not a big deal. Now they sell a lot of bloated software that is much more expensive, and you almost have buy it again every year. The price (to us) of (their) success!

Oddly, I didn’t get an email from Topaz. But I did check and on my account I can start an annual subscription for $84. But I’m confused. I do not remember PhotoAI being a subscription when I purchased it. I assumed it would get updated until they came out with a new version with significant improvements. I realize every company wants to get our money all the time, but where and when was this change announced?

I’ve been waiting for an update that supports the R5 Mark II. Considering how other software now supports the camera, and their silence on this, does not give me confidence in giving them my money in anticipation of future improvements.

When you buy the product, it comes with a 1 year upgrade plan which you can, but don’t have to extend. AFAIK, the upgrade plan also includes major updates. If the plan expires, you can still continue to use the application, so it’s not a subscription in the traditional sense.

It’s been like that for at least a few years.
