Introducing Video AI Plug-ins (Holiday Season 2023)

Adobe After Effects Plug-in

Topaz Video AI will soon be available as a plug-in for your favorite video editing software. A key part of our mission starting with Topaz Video AI 4 and going into 2024 is to fit in as smoothly as possible with common video editing workflows. To that end, we have been hard at work on non-linear editor integrations.

One of the best ways to work with our AI models is through the apps you already know and love, so we’re working towards integrations with Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve.

Public beta release schedule: We will be launching plug-ins in stages, starting with Adobe After Effects on Windows, followed by Premiere Pro and macOS versions for both apps. In 2024, we plan to offer OpenFX compatible plug-ins for various other host apps.

Using Video AI within After Effects

There are some valuable advantages to using Video AI from within a host application like Adobe After Effects:

  • Ability to keyframe parameters of each AI model to specific moments in your footage.
  • Ability to pre-compose other effects in Ae and process them through Video AI’s Enhancement filter.
  • Instant previews through After Effects’ background rendering feature.

Video AI for After Effects also supports Multi-Frame Rendering, which allows for over 20 concurrent threads to be in use during renders.

To install the beta plugin, follow these steps:

    1. Open Topaz Video AI
    1. Make sure you are signed in
    1. Click Help > Install TVAI After Effects Plugin Beta
    1. Click Install

Please check out our docs about how to use the beta plugin in After Effects to understand how to use the plugin and current limitations.

Improved player performance and revamped Live Preview

Video AI v4 has been updated since its initial release to support higher bitrate files and Live Previews within the Direct Comparison mode. The new player is able to anticipate which files will be played back next and load necessary data more quickly than previous versions.

Other improvements

  • Adds related preview ranges underneath preview group, including processing status and stats for each preview.
  • New: Looping of preview ranges by clicking the “Loop” button in the preview list.
  • New: Jump directly to a preview in the timeline by clicking on it in the list.
  • New: Toggle button for single-view and Direct Comparison UI modes.

What’s Next?

We have several foundational improvements in the pipeline that should significantly improve how useful Topaz Video AI is to you.

  • Further integration with popular NLEs
  • Allow pausing and resuming processing along with a Crash Recovery feature.

Please apply for the video beta program if you’d like to shape the development of these features. Thanks, and we look forward to hearing what you think!
