Has anyone used Topaz Video AI for improving old sports footage?
If so, please can you share the settings you’ve used as I’m in the process of working on a batch of old soccer games and wrestling matches that were filmed in the 80’s and 90’s.
I’ve found so far that the software does a tremendous job with close up shots but anything that’s wider doesn’t look quite right.
Here is a simple prob4 2x upscale pass using relative to auto, with just +20 on “Improve Detail”. All the rest left at default (zero).
Proteus 4 manages to denoise the clip, get rid of the most severe halos that plague analogue, and recovered some detail (e.g. hair).
I’ve interleaved the TVAI output frames with the original to make it easy to compare, by stepping frame-by-frame and seeing exactly how the result compares with the source for any part of the clip.
I’ve also overlaid which frame is the source and which is the TVAI proteus 4 upscale to make it easier to know which is which when stepping through frames. Probably redundant since you’ll clearly see which is which anyway.
Exact configuration.
Enhanced using prob-4; mode: relative to auto; revert compression at 0; recover details at 20; sharpen at 0; reduce noise at 0; dehalo at 0; anti-alias/deblur at 0; focus fix Off; and recover original detail at 20. Changed resolution to 1440x1152
