I started working on a new clip when I saw there were some updates. I updated to 1.7.0 and now I’m running into a strange issue where the sequence thumbnails are all upside down, but the “Original” preview looks fine. But then when you process a preview or an export, the output is indeed upside down.
The particular clip I’m working from is from an iPhone, so I suspect the metadata tag that is supposed to tell the video player what orientation was used during recording is only being partially read–clearly the base level player for the “Original” tab is reading it correctly, but it is being skipped for thumbnail generation and processing. I think this can be confirmed due to the fact that non-phone sources that don’t need that sort of orientation tag work just fine with no rotation issues.
I didn’t have this issue in prior versions–I literally had already started testing various settings on the clip before I decided to update, and it was working fine, so I think this issue is most likely to have come up sometime in the last 3 updates (I was showing 3 updates available before updating) or could just be affecting 1.7.0.
The output is upside down, but I’m ultimately dropping it into Premiere to edit, so it is easy enough to rotate it 180 degrees there, but it would be great to fix this issue so it is easier to check settings comparing the preview to the original–currently pretty difficult since the original has the correct orientation, but the generated preview is flipped.
